Hello! I haven’t been using Tumblr much recently, and I know I picked up some new followers since starting to post Critical Role drabbles. So here’s a little bit of information on me and my primary fandom stuff.

RL Info: She/her/hers, mid-30s, Librarian/Archivist, living in the Mid-Atlantic USA, married, and mom to a beautiful, amazing little girl (born mid-2019).

Fandoms I Write In: Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Person of Interest, Critical Role.

The Critical Role Thing You Might Know Me From: Parallels, where I thought about, er, parallels between C1 and C2 characters that weren’t just comparisons between the same player’s characters. Note that I wrote this relatively early in C2 - aka in the Molly era, where a lot of secrets had yet to be revealed. 

Long-Term Writing Projects: I have a bunch of WIPs, but the ones that I’m most likely to continue are my two Mass Effect Giant Crossovers of Doom.

No More Gallifreys: Mass Effect x Doctor Who (2005). Main characters: Female Shepard and the 11th Doctor. Eleven joins the Normandy mid-ME2; clashes with Shepard at first, makes friends with Mordin and Tali, and learns a surprising truth about himself and his connection to the ME universe.

In retrospect, large-scale crossover was not a great choice for my first foray into fanfic, and I got discouraged for a while - but there was a moment recently where I genuinely wanted to continue, so I ended the 2.5 year gap by resolving one cliffhanger and introducing a far less dramatic one.

Exodus Into Fire:Mass Effect x Battlestar Galactica (2003). Main character: Kara “Starbuck” Thrace; secondary important characters: Female Shepard, William Adama, Sharon “Athena” Agathon, Galen Tyrol, and likely others as the story goes along. The Earth that Starbuck guides Galactica to mid-S4 turns out to be Shepard’s Earth at the beginning of ME3. With Earth not the safe haven they’d hoped for, a multi-species conflict raging around them, and the enemy Cylons still a threat, the Colonial Fleet and their Cylon allies struggle to make a place for themselves in this new universe.

At one point, I’d intended to complete No More Gallifreys before starting this one. Hah. There’s an alternate universe where I had the Mass Effect romance be Male Shepard/Tali instead of Shakarian. Female Shepard was a main character at the start, but Starbuck is now the linchpin. I learned from my previous mistakes and chucked ME canon out the airlock sooner, or kept it offscreen if it wasn’t changed by the presence of BSG characters. I’m determined to fit a crossover romance in there somewhere, besides Starbuck hooking up with Septimus Oraka at Afterlife (why? Because she could).

Fandom Exchanges: After creating an excessive amount of spreadsheets for them, @acequeenking asked me to help moderate the two Bioware Rare Pair exchanges that she started - Spectre Requisitions (Mass Effect) and Black Emporium (Dragon Age). Running these two exchanges has turned me into a serious multi-shipper, and I have fun with both of them every year. 

Doing those two also inspired me to create the Exchange of Interest for Person of Interest. This one’s for any and all POI relationships. I love this show so much - the lore is amazing and incredibly detailed, and it has some seriously badass characters that are easily some of my favorites ever. I’m grateful to @livenudebigfoot for co-running with me and look forward to Year 4 in Spring 2021!

Stand-Alone Works: Because of the aforementioned exchange participation, I’ve written a LOT of stand-alone ‘shippy stories in the past few years. Here’s a highlighted one from each canon.

What kind of woman doesn’t have an axe? (ME) - Female Shepard/Aria, with FemShep being basically an expy of Rosa from Brooklyn 99. Set during the Omega DLC for ME3.

Acceptance (DA) - Male Inquisitor/Vivienne, soulmate AU which is really more of a character study of Vivienne (who gets way too much hate).

Straight into the late night (POI) - Carter/Zoe/Shaw; as my recipient put it, Three Women Fix Things Then Make-Out.

So What’s Next?: Another round of Spectre Requisitions starting shortly after the new year; and hopefully more progress soon on my Giant Crossovers (I say that every time. Sometimes it’s true.)

Fandoms:On top of everything already mentioned there will be a TON of reblogged Wheel of Time content because that book series is my favorite and has been an important part of my life since I was 14. I am stupidly excited for the show and intend to go back to mentally shrieking about the new trailer as soon as I hit post.

Interviewers calling Wheel of Time “the next Game of Thrones” is an attack against me personally

90m books sold vs 12m before the series starts.

6 full books published before the first one is published in ‘96.

One gets his boost in notice because of the other one writing the forward. The one who hasn’t finished the series thanks the first one for giving him the encouragement to write it, and getting him the notice from other fantasy fans.

Throughout the course of the Wheel of Time, Rand al'Thor is consistently gaslit into believing his trauma isn’t real/or overblown by everyone around him and that all his PTSD symptoms are a result of the Taint. This in turn is the reason why he is unable to process any of his trauma, which leads to him believing his symptoms are a sign of personal weakness and causing him to hide them in this essay I will

There’s also the thing where he’s constantly in a mental health crisis and everyone around him just…. let’s it happen

The only person who gives him advice how to deal with stuff is Lan - too bad it’s shit advice.

Based on that teaser for ep 5 with Lan screaming, running through the hallway, and the missing dagger from that one shot. I think Stepin is gonna take his own life after the death of Kerene to drive home how strong the bond is between Aes Sedai and Warders.

            Drawing his sword, and suppressing the pang that he now always felt looking at it now, remembering his father, Rand took a deep breath and tried to form the Void. 

            It had not come easily these last few days. In his mind he formed the flame and fed everything into his: his fear, his anxiety, his anger at the Aes Sedai, his doubt about their situation about whether or not he had caused it somehow, even the mess of tangled feelings that reared up in him anytime he thought of Mat now. He wanted to shake the other man, and he wanted to hold him close and never let go. He wanted to kiss his stupid smirking mouth until it was red and panting, and he wanted to chase Mat away to a place beyond where Rand could hurt him, or let him down.

            All of it fed into the flame, but no matter how large it grew, it never winked out into the emptiness as it was supposed to. It always wavered, flicking just on the edge. Finally Rand gave up and shifted into Heron Waiting in the Rushes, to begin working the forms of the sword.

However terrible things are- and they are bad don’t get me wrong-I do periodically get to remind myself that WoT is being adapted with love and care and devotion, the fandom is thriving like it never has before, and some measure of the hope and joy and comfort I felt first reading this series in middle school is mine again.

Their is something so healingabout knowing that more people are enjoying this story then ever have before, are also stepping into this world where things are flawed and broken and hurting, but where everything will eventually be alright, where fate moves relentlessly forward not disregarding our choices but weaving them into it’s grand design, for weal or woe.

But their’s also something else too. I talk sometimes about how, since WoT has been with me so long I use it as a gauge of my personal growth, measuring how my views and understanding of the text have evolved as I’ve re-read the series again and again over the years. But looking at the way others have evolved in how they experience it, how others have grown over the years of re-reading the series has made me realize in what a better place we are culturally. So many more people see Rand’s pain and his sorrow and his struggles with mental health and instead of dismissing scorning or mocking him, they empathize with and extend grace and compassion to him. So many more people see the depth and complexity of characters once reduced to one note traits, and the underlying potential for queer representation in the themes and elements that always their just under the surface, whispering to kids like me.

As the world grows harder and more scary and more uncertain I find myself thinking more and more about the spirit that defines the Wheel of Time: the wheel turns, ages come and pass leaving memories that fade to legend, legend that fades to myth. All that is is destined to depart and fade away. All that was is destined to one day come again reborn and reshaped and rewritten. What will be is meant to be terrifying and unknown and uncertain. We where made for this. We where made for struggle and strife and endless change and imperfection and love.

All is as it was meant to be. The Wheel weaves as the wheel wills.
