Avatar the Last Airbender opens with an introduction to the series’ system of magic, geography, central conflict, and mythos in a succinct title sequence. The first thing that is introduced is the four bending styles.
Guess it’s been a while since everything kicked off and we’ve been sequestered which has honestly put me in a little of an artistic rut, so I started this series of studies to play around some and to hopefully help pull me out of it a bit.
Anyways, like many of you I’m sure, I just finished a [re]run-through of ATLA and I’ve gotta say that show holds up so well, especially in today’s climate. I have nothing but love for it. Back when it aired, the conclusion of the Water book was always a big one for me and I REALLY enjoyed Yue’s design so this was my take on that revisitation. Lore, world building, major character arcs, all of the good stuff
Listen, the water tribe family holds a realy special place in my heart. and i wanted to see happy Kaya and Hakoda! It is simply unfair that Kaya is just “the mother killed by the fire nation” Ursa got more lines than her!!! I want to know more of her. See how she took care of her kids. bundeling them in warm clothes. Telling them stories, playing games.

(Insert Aang saying something about how Zuko has no right to dismiss Air Nomad teachings in this ‘real world’ his ancestors made by wiping out his entire culture that taught the importance of forgiveness and peace.
Followed by how much nore important it is to begin a process this difficult with the teachings of long since gone nomads starting with the second most affected group by the Fire Nation; Southern Water Tribe)
For Day 2 of Inktober 2019, I drew Sokka from one of my all-time fave shows, Avatar: The Last Airbender! With this drawing, I’ve finally drawn each member of the main cast traditionally…yay me! Hope ya dig the piece! :D
