Heres your reminder to use literally anything but chrome

And here’s your reminder that Firefox actively works to protect your privacy and prevent tracking.

Firefox also has “Facebook fence” which is used to contain Facebook into isolated tabs that prevent tracking as you browse, since so many sites have social media plugins/ads that help collect data for Facebook and other apps.

You can tell Firefox to fence in Facebook in the browser preferences. Also a good time to change your search engine to DuckDuckGo and leave Google search behind (or only use it with another browser that’s separate from daily use).

The EFF (OP of the tweet) has various types of privacy tools that they’ve created. Some are browser plugins. I recommend going to their site to learn more about internet privacy and advocacy (and donating a few bucks if you can spare it). https://www.eff.org/pages/tools

Yule activities

Make a Yule Wreath:

♡Forage for discarded tree branches

♡Take the longest section of branch and loop it around itself to make a circle. Secure the two ends with a strong, thin string (not plastic string though!)

♡Loop some twine around the entirety of the circle

♡Secure the twine so that its wrapped tightly, you do not want it to unravel!

♡Tuck new pieces of pine around the ring, making sure to weave the entire branches through the wreath

♡Go over the additional pine that you added with one more loop of twine

♡Hang it on your door or wall or wear it as a crown as in the pagan holidays of yule and Saturnalia!

◇There are many ways to decorate a Yule Wreaths, be creative and explore!◇

Make Seed Covered Apples For Birds:

♡Dab apple slices (halves) with a paper towel to dry

♡Spread a layer of peanut butter on your apple slices

♡Pour some bird seed onto a plate and dip the apple slices, peanut butter side down, into the seeds

♡Thread a tapestry needle with yarn or string and push it through the apples near the top

◇Place/hang them in your garden or somewhere outdoors!◇

Decorate With:

♡Suns and Solar symbols

♡Candles and light sources

♡Pine Cones and Natural Greenery

♡Yule Logs (The Actual Thing Not The Food)

♡Dried Fruits

♡Nuts and Berries

A beautiful song for Yule:

Blessed be

While I have never been very interested in the consumerist side to Christmas, as I get older I’ve rediscovered a great deal of joy in the celebrating the winter solstice. The act of making decorations, particularly with family or friends, brings a sense of warmth and meaning. I thought I might share some of the things I do throughout the month leading up to the solstice (with unaffiliated links to tutorials if you’d like to give it a try). The ephemeral, often foraged nature of these decorations encourages attention and presence in the moment, and requires little in the way of resources.

just sharing another fix i made for myself a while ago. i always found the dms windows too small for my screen so i made it a more comfortable size.

for reference my screen resolution is 1920*1080 and the new dm size is 360*640. if this is too big (or small) for your screen feel free to edit the code and adjust it to your liking :)

Well fuck these blog recommendations right in the middle of my damned dash.

(I profusely apologize if I show up unwarranted in the middle of someone’s dash. I don’t want to be there either~)

If you use adblock plus or similar, add ‘www.tumblr.com##.recommended-unit-container’ to the custom filters (without the single quotes), and they should go away.

I actually have found some neat blogs through the recommendations. Hoever, I’m reblogging this for folks who would rather not have them on their feed.

Why is it not public knowledge that you can get herpes from kissing?? What the fuck

It’s less-than-common knowledge that you can get herpes from kissing because knowing how transmittable and outright common it is would break down the stigma that surrounds it. Or, put another way, the stigma that surrounds herpes is such that people don’t want to discuss it as commonplace, prefering to deny that functionally, the majority of adults have some variety ofHSV1orHSV2, and that on the balance it’s really not that terrible a disease. In fact, it’s difficult to estimate how much of the population is infected because a lot of cases are completely asymptomatic.

Use common sense, stay away from lesions on the lips, genitals, and anus (that means cold sores!) and use barrier protection (when touching genitals or anuses with any other body part) with partners if you don’t know their status and aren’t in a place where all partners are ready discuss fluid bonding

But if you do end up contracting herpes it is not death, and it is not going to doom you to a sexless life. What’s going to happen to you is that sometimes - likely around stress like colds - you will get blisters somewhere tender and you’ll be a little extra tired for maybe a week. Make sure to talk to a doctor about how this may affect you and what you can do about it, and advise sexual partners so everyone’s nice and informed. And take a deep breath.

Sexetc.org is a website where you can input your state ( In the U.S) and it will show you all the laws regarding consent laws (if any), abortion laws, lgbt community rights, sex education laws, etc. I highly recommend this site. It also recommends you to places that can help you pay for birth control, abortions, condoms, Etc.

Every young person (and adult, for that matter!) should have access to this site, run by Rutgers University.

The link doesn’t take you to the resource mentioned. Go to the search bar and search “Sex in the States”

one of my favorite things ever, even if looking at my state’s information makes me cry.

How to get the most out of only 1 resource

I planned this post as a challenge in the future but someone asked for some ways to study a language with a few resources so I’ll cover every single resource that I can think of and ways to get the most out of them.

Books

I’ll divide this in 3:

  • Grammar books
  • Reading books
  • Dictionaries

Grammar books

This kind of books cover grammar and vocabulary. Most grammar books have everything you need to know but my advice is to use at least 2 in case one of them covers some extra points.

  • A way to learn the grammar is to write or have a speech that implies the grammar concepts. Of course this is for when you learned some vocabulary as well.
  • Most books have exercises. Another way to recall the grammatical concepts is to use a workbook but most minority languages don’t have such workbooks so you have to create them. After each lesson think of similar sentences and try to make different kinds of exercises. Fill in and translation seem like the most available ones. My suggestion is to make more tests at a time and solve them periodically.
  • Vocabulary, here’s really your choice but in my opinion the most effective way is to use it actively. Activities like writing or speaking will help you retain everything better. Howtomemorize
  • Some books come with audio so you can repeat after the audio when you study a certain lesson. A suggestion is to have a plan and listen to the past audios + repeating what you hear often so you get pronunciation practice.

These apply to apps like duolingo, with vocabulary and grammar too.

Reading books/articles

  • Vocab lists. Every single new word, write it down and learn it later. If you find a word that is for something that you will never talk about though, you don’t have to learn it. I.e. a disease you don’t know even in your native language but if you want to learn it, go ahead.
  • You could print the pages and work on them. Analyze the grammar concepts if you think they are used in a way that you haven’t seen before, mark idioms, write your opinion on the action so far/a summary, suggest synonym or antonyms using a dictionary.
  • Write a summary at a certain milestone. It can be with simple words like “he likes the girl”, “she has a sister” etc use words that you’ve read in the book.

Dictionaries

  • This gives you more flexibility so use some words that you want to know and make a text or flashcards etc. Anything that can help you learn them.
  • You can also choose randomly the words and try to think of connections between them.

Apps

2 apps come to my mind for minorities, Fun easy learn and 50 languages.

Fun easy learn can be used in a couple of ways:

  • Write a text or add the words to a picture. I.e. You learn about body parts, download a drawing and fill the parts on it.
  • Make some flashcards or use the method you memorize better with.

The reasons why I think FEL needs extra practice is because the exercises aren’t that high intensity but if you practice regularly with them, they could be helpful.

Same for memrise.

For 50languages:

  • You can use your memorization techniques here to.
  • This app offers audio files so just as for books you can listen daily to a couple of audios and repeat after them.

Video resources:

  • Listen to it once. See what you remember or if you understand anything. If you do, then talk about the topic/action.
  • If you don’t understand everything, try to change the speed or just repeat until you can figure out the words. If you can guess the spelling, look for translations online.

This applies to audio only resources too.

Extra

The extension Flewent changes a certain % of anything you read to your TL as long as it’s in the list of languages they offer.

WHAT IS TMJ?

Temporomandibular joint is the axial joint that hooks up the lower jaw with the skull’s temporal bone. These joints maintain jaw plasticity. The jaw can smoothly make up-down and side to side movements along with enabling a person to chew, yawn or talk. There are muscles around the jaw joint too. These muscles control jaw position and movement.

WHAT IS TMJ DISORDER?

Temporomandibular Joint Disorder refers to jaw disorders. “TMJ Disorder” occurs when trouble arises in jaw, jaw joints or facial muscles that regulate jaw movements. TMJ Disorder creates dysfunction in jaw muscles thereby commencing excruciating pain while moving the jaw. Pain is the main syndrome of TMJ Disorder that occurs in regular cycles.

REASONS:

⦁ Unbalanced activity

⦁ Spasm

⦁ Overusing jaw muscles

SYMPTOMS:

⦁ Headache/Earache

⦁ Experiencing pain in jaw, neck or face.

⦁ Jaw muscles get stiff

⦁ Locking of the jaw movement

WHY US?

Sometimes the pain vanishes with little treatment however; if TMJ Disorder specialist is not consulted it may lead to long-term problems.

Some of our exclusive treatment services include:

CONSERVATIVE TREATMENTS

Jaw Relaxation: In the initial therapy, the jaw is relaxed by utilizing warm compresses. If there are any dental injuries then instead of warm compresses we make use of ice packs. Along with this, pain relieving medications are also prescribed. Jaw relaxation can heal temporomandibular joints. In this treatment we also follow stress-reduction techniques which will release stress as well as relax your jaw and body. The following care is expected from patient’s side:

1. Consume only soft foods and avoid chewy foods.

2. Avoid eating chewing gum or hard candy.

3. Avoid wide opening of your mouth.

4. Practice muscle stretching or relaxation exercises exactly as guided by our TMJ specialist.

Fitting Splint: A splint or bite plate of plastic is fitted surrounding your jaw by our specialists. This acts as a guard between the upper and lower teeth. This helps in:

1. Reducing Clenching

2. Teeth grinding

3. Ease muscle tension

To book an appointment click here: https://bit.ly/3vGsT7y

INVASIVE TREATMENTS

Invasive techniques are used when conservative techniques fail to ease your problem. In this technique two needles are inserted in the temporomandibular joint so as to wash it thoroughly. One needle is attached with a cleansing solution filled syringe. This fluid exists through the other syringe.

This method suits many and the pain gets back to normal. Sometimes, pain relieving medications are also injected in a similar way.

SURGERY

We generally avoid advising this treatment to our valuable patients as it is irreversible. We apply it in extreme cases where the joints in the jaw are replaced with artificial implants.

How To Care For an Elderly Rat:Grooming
As rats age and start to develop weak muscles and other issues they may have some difficulty grooming thoroughly. Because of these conditions which create limitations for your pet rats, you may have to help them with grooming to ensure they are clean.
A few things you can do to keep them clean:
-A daily wipe down with a damp cloth or wet soft bristled brush can help keep their coat clean and groomed.
-Rats usually use their feet to clean their ears. Because of this you may need to remove built-up wax with a Q-tip once a week.
-Holding your rat upright in your lap can allow him to groom using both hands, something which is difficult with hind leg degeneration.
-Regular clipping of his back claws will be necessary as they won’t be worn down like normal.
-Elderly rats with mobility issues may start having bladder control problems.  If this occurs, wash their belly clean when he does wet himself. Urine can burn and irritate the skin if not cleaned up.
-Moving their limbs around with gentle range of motion, exercises will help keep his joints flexible.

All of these points are important, but I cannot stress the last two points especially!
