second-year-studying:

How to deal with stress/anxiety/anger/a bad day in 1 hour, so that you can go back to studying, or whatever else you need to do …I wrote a general post recently about dealing with stress/anxiety/depression and some of you guys said it really helped, so here is a more short term fix for a bad day:

Personally, half the time I won’t do this and I will just sit in front of the telly or go to bed without studying, and then feel worse in the morning, so I’m hoping than an actual written checklist might make it easier for you guys not to do this. If this applies to you, then actually make yourself a checklistand stick it on your wall,or in your planner for when you need it!!! Force yourself to look at it, and physically cross the things off. As I said in my last post I think it’s so important to have a method to be able to deal with your own stress without asking others for help, and consciously making the decision to deal with your stress and get on with your day is the first step.

As usual these are the really obvious fixes, but doing this in order and in the space of an hour is what actually works for me. Don’t skip steps even if you don’t see the point / can’t be bothered to do it, force yourself to follow the list:

  1. Firstdo some exercise, which if you’re anything like me when I’m stressed/upset is probably the last thing you want to do, but the fact that you’re doing something rather than just moping around will immediately make you feel better about yourself. Even if it’s just 50 jumping jacks or sit ups, it will change your perspective from feeling sorry for yourself to doing something about it. (10 minutes)
  2.  Drink a glass of coldwater, it’s just calm and refreshing, and refreshing is exactly what you need to do before you start working again.
  3. Get a bath or a shower, even if it’s the evening or if you’ve already had one … you’re basically just washing away all that stress. Put some loud upbeat music on to stop yourself from doing all that shower-thinking, you will feel refreshed. I would also advise having a playlist of songs that will actually improve your mood for when you need it. (15 minutes)
  4. Put on cleancomfy clothes, brush your hair, put on deodorant/perfume/ anything that makes you feel more put together. (10 minutes
  5. Take ten minutes to clean up your space, light candles and spray room spray, (if you don’t have any of these, please buy some, they are the cheapest most effective fix I swear). (10 minutes)
  6. Make a hot (or cold) drink: tea, coffee, iced tea whatever it is. (5 minutes)
  7. Lay all of your work/books/pens out in front of you, make a list of what you need to achieve today/tonight. You already know you’re having a bad day so set a realistic/achievable goal.  (10 minutes)

Now you can start work. If you still feel stressed, make allowances e.g. leave your tv/music on while you work … it might slow you down, but you’re doing something, and thats pretty great considering where you were an hour ago :)

Listening to a nice jazz music, do some little dance and TORTURE THE FUCKING ASSHOLE CLOAKER. It would be the best way to relieve stress for me.

I received a comment on a recent video asking how I was. Wanted to provide a little update on where I am right now in my life. I don’t normally share a lot about my life or where I am personally, but I do believe this will align with my mission to help at least one person. Sending you all so much love. Not sure what this video really is or how to properly describe it since it’s a bit of a depression storytime, anxiety storytime, burnout storytime, how to grieve, how to set boundaries or maybe answers the question: do therapists need therapists? Just wanted to provide where I’m at. So if you’re struggling too, you’re not alone. And it’s temporary.

A lot of you ask me about my favorite TV shows, movies, music and so much more. Well, some of you who know me very well, might know that one of my favorite shows is Sex and the City. To the point where I’ve watched every episode of the original Sex and the City multiple times, and can recite nearly every scene. Now the next question you may have, is which Sex and the City character are you? And to be honest, I think I connect with all 4 of them. If you like this new Therapist Reacts series, let me know in the comments and thumbs up so I can make sure I do more of them!

I get the questions: “How do I know if I have social anxiety?” or “What is the difference between shyness and social anxiety?” a lot. In this video I’m talking you through social anxiety versus shyness. The first part in social anxiety support is understanding what social anxiety is. And how it differs from someone who is shy or introverted. In this video I’ll talk you through the difference between social anxiety, introversion and shyness, then provide a quiz so you can figure out what you struggle with, then offer social anxiety helpful tips.

What has my life come too?

Im unhappy and scared working, like I wanna do other things in life than work my whole life away and im so scared im going to mess up or get fired.

Im tired all the time, but when I can go to sleep I cant. I work from 4pm to 9pm some times even past closing, I get home and say up till 1am because I cant sleep and then wake up at 11am.

My manager gave me a choose on work or not working halloween. I have desided not to work halloween but im afraid I have made a bad choose because every one is support to come in.

All I can think about is eather running away or shooting my self in the head because I fear in going to have to work just to survive the rest of my life day in and day out. I want my life to mean something and not just working to get by or working because I have too.

If my life is just going to be like this for the rest of my life I might as well be dead.

Im a artest, I wanna travel the world, I dont wanna worry about money, I want some one to love me, I want people to know who I am, I want life to be as beautiful as movie about love, I wanna wake up in the morning with some one i love and then have tea or cafe with then while rain pitter patters on the window, I want a house full of vintage furniture and art from around the world, I wanna have a little girl or two, I wanna live my life the way I wanna live it.

Children’s vulnerability reflected in genes

Some children are more sensitive to their environments, for better and for worse. Now Duke University researchers have identified a gene variant that may serve as a marker for these children, who are among society’s most vulnerable.

“The findings are a step toward understanding the biology of what makes a child particularly sensitive to positive and negative environments,” said Dustin Albert, a research scientist at the Duke Center for Child and Family Policy. “This gives us an important clue about some of the children who need help the most.”

Drawing on two decades worth of data on high-risk first-graders from four locations across the country, the study found that children from high-risk backgrounds who also carried a certain common gene variant were extremely likely to develop serious problems as adults. Left untreated, 75 percent with the gene variant developed psychological problems by age 25, including alcohol abuse, substance abuse and antisocial personality disorder.

The picture changed dramatically, though, when children with the gene variant participated in an intensive program called the Fast Track Project. After receiving support services in childhood, just 18 percent developed psychopathology as adults.

Soft Purple Stimboard for a worried friend

Been in a weird place for the past month or so. I’ve had this odd feeling of existentialism, some of it good, some of it bad. I tend to take times like this to analyze myself, and this time I felt like I had a lot of terms to cope with. Some of it was art related, some of it was childhood traumas, some of it current issues, but all of it was a result of lots of suppression and “fixing” my issues by working more and being extremely self critical. As a result I’ve always felt very passive, and considered myself mostly emotionless, and I think I’m finally starting to realize that’s not who I am. We’re past that now, but I’m feeling really confident about who I am now and my future. If anyone wants to talk about anxiety, depression, whatever it is, I’m always open to hear it. Anyway I’m done with the preaching! Just figured I’d share my story with emotional distress and hopefully help some people along the way!!
