this is fucking wild i keep having my expectations torn to shreds i thought i knew what to expect and then they dropped a single and THEN i thought i knew what to expect and they played possibly 2 of the best shows of their careers and THEN i thought i knew what to expect and now gerard is in an all white suit covered in blood on the 10 year anniversary of their last show and on the date of the number of the hotel bella room key in their mysterious but ultimately kind of unexplained tour announcement video that has this whole time been leading to their shows at the forum which arent for another 5 months but we seem to be moving so fast and hes literally on stage covered in blood like its 2004 what is this am i alive can somebody help
thinking about the meta/instagram logo on gerard’s mask tonight through the lens of being a dare to the audience. like, i dare you to photograph this, i dare you to post this online, i dare you to spread my physical form to every fucking website you can and make me Known to the public once again. you wanted to see me, well look at me now! back from the dead and covered in blood. i’m not a martyr anymore, i’m a free agent of chaos to be seen only how i choose to show myself to the world.
mcr needs all 63 shows because they’re telling a story with this tour. they’re using the fact that people will post about each unique performance on social media to their advantage rather than wishing the publicity away entirely. it feels very similar in storytelling medium to a comic book series, wherein releasing new issues each week the creator expects that not everyone will necessarily read every page but they’ll get the gist of it through social media/fan discussions, and where fan participation/influence toward the overall story is a given. this is gerard (and mikey)’s element. they understand the comic book medium so intimately that they’re able to make all of mcr’s existing lore for the past 20 years come to full fruition through this tour.
