We are so excited to share this update with all our supporters who helped us secure the first half of the new land. Even as all the construction work continues, we are almost done building one of the pools for our rescued elephants to splash around in at the Field Of Dreams!

We think “Field of Dreams” is the perfect name for our project expanding the elephant sanctuary. Why? One of the first things rescued eles do when they arrive at our sanctuary is lie down and go into a deep sleep. Just look at Mia below! It’s the first time in years that some of these eles have been able to rest on the soft earth without chains. We’re currently building the Field of Dreams with pools and shelters to make it as healing a home as possible, but we need to expedite the process before the monsoons come. Watching young Mowgli exuberantly bounding around his enclosure at the#AgraBearRescueFacility, it is hard to imagine that it has been almost a year since he first came into our lives!

In February 2017, 10 week old Mowgli was left orphaned after his mother was electrocuted by high tension wires set up by poachers in the state of #MadhyaPradesh, India. Once rescued and rehabilitated at the #WildlifeSOS #AgraBearRescueCenter, our dedicated team of keepers & vets made sure to provide the much needed TLC and help him recover from his traumatic past!
Today, Mowgli is a far cry from the scrawny little helpless cub he was when he first stepped at our rescue center! Catch his shenanigans as we celebrate his first Rescue Anniversary!

Concerned about Gajraj’s footpads, particularly the footpad of his left hind foot, the veterinarians at the #ElephantConservationandCareCentre came up with an innovative solution to the problem – in the form of a dark sticky liquid. Daily pool walking, diligent attention to my rehab exercises, hot-packs (yes even in the heat), and healing visualisation have brought me to a pain-free 5.6km trail walk yesterday and a 28km bike ride today. And yep; stretching and pool work are done!

What a wonderful feeling walking the local trails again on a beautiful Saturday. I took the opportunity to do my morning meditation in the peaceful, fresh-scented park. The sounds and smells of nature, the waft of a breeze, made it so much nicer; with just the occasional crunch as someone ran past.

TA-DAAAA! Two walks in three days and the most kilometres since I herniated my L5 disc five weeks ago. Today I tackled 5.6km of inclines and declines on the Zamia Trail; and on Thursday I took the pupper for a 2km jaunt around the local exercise park. Hopefully I soon can join my GLU running buddies on a Saturday morning.

I want a home mostly just to welcome people into it. There will be bowls of candy for guests, and the cookie jar is full. I’ll always say “I was just about to make a coffee/tea/cocoa, would you like one?” when somebody walks in. There’s lemonade and iced tea made fresh on hot days. Once it hits That Hour and they start saying they really should be going, I’ll remind them that the futon is always open, and I’m making cinnamon rolls tomorrow. There’s champagne and sparkling juice hidden on a high shelf just in case somebody announces their engagement or their pregnancy or their new job while they’re here. There is an extra chair in the living room, at the table, and on the deck, and it’s for you. I want to be able to say “if you’re ever in trouble, come to me.”
My home is always open
I know it’s not a bird of prey, but I can’t not post these. A little orphaned hoglet whose mother was found dead in someone’s garden came into the wildlife rehabilitation centre I work at. He was very hungry!
