First Video of NASA’s Ingenuity Mars Helicopter in Flight
|fovarosiblogsaid:What is hazcam?
Ah, sorry, that’s short for “hazard camera”. These are wide angle cameras the rover uses while driving, to help avoid driving into boulders, falling off cliffs, getting stuck in sand, etc. Perseverance has three stereo pairs of these: Main and backup pairs on the front end of the rover, and a single pair on the back end. As another example of this, you can look at all the latest hazcam images from the Curiosity rover here.
They use these cameras right after landing because most of the others are located on the rover’s camera mast – the thing that kind of looks like the rover’s head and neck – or its arm, and it’ll be a couple of days before they start using either of those.
“There are external obstacles… but if you accept the obstacle and work with what you’re given, an alternative will present itself — another piece of what you’re trying to assemble. Action by action.”— Marcus Aurelius, Meditations (8.32)
I know it’s hard to believe right now, but there will come day when you will walk into your bathroom, casually glance at yourself in the mirror, and realize with a start that there aren’t purple circles under your eyes.
You’ll start thinking, and realize that you didn’t cry yourself to sleep last night. Come to think of it, you haven’t cried yourself to sleep in a while.
You’ll look down, and your hands won’t be shaking.
You’ll stare at your reflection and won’t hate what you see.
Then you’ll walk out of your house, and start conversing with a neighbor, before remembering that even talking to a close friend used to be a struggle.
Maybe you’ll even go out to eat with some friends, and (plot twist!) actually enjoy your food, forgetting the calorie count that used to strangle the life out of you.
You’ll sit in church, singing your favorite hymn, remembering only vaguely the times you sat in that very same place doubting the existence of a God you now know as a father and friend.
Because that’s the funny thing about healing- you never realize that it’s happening. Then one day, you look back to see that God was answering your prayer before you even asked him to. When you were still crying out in pain, God was moving and your heart was changing.
I promise you brothers and sisters, your laughter will block the sadness you once felt suffocating you. Your confidence will overcome the insecurities that used to burden you. Your praises will prevail over your doubts. Your God will show up, and the forces of darkness will flee before his power. Love will grow in your heart, slowly but surely, to blossom and overflow within you.
Beloved, where you are now is not the end of the story. Hold onto your faith, and continue in your prayers. The Lord has worked all things together for your good. It will happen slowly, but little by little the light will come back into your life… And the light always wins over the darkness in the end.
“And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” Philippians 1:6

Album Notes: Paths of Faith Christian Prayersongs Inspired by the Holy Spirit
It is with a humble, grateful heart that I announce the publication of my 29th musical album to God’s precious children, inspired by His Holy Spirit, who enabled me to create it through the risen Lord Jesus Christ within me, to the glory of our Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ name.
Paths of Faith is an appropriate title…
Emancipation Day
Juneteenth is a holiday observed on June 19th that celebrates the emancipation of the former slaves in the United States.
“Emancipation Day” is truly a holiday in our country that everyone should honor and consider thoughtfully and with great thanksgiving to God.
For His word says “…The Lord frees prisoners. The Lord opens the eyes of the blind. The Lord raises up those who are oppressed…” ~…
Humans Can’t Fly A Helicopter On Mars, And That’s Why Ingenuity Is So Amazing
“Mars is an entirely inhospitable world in a lot of ways. Its thin, tenuous atmosphere often blows at wildly incredible speeds, giving rise to dust storms and whimsically carrying anything that happens to be in its atmosphere wherever those winds blow. Its temperature extremes are a challenge to survive, particularly for robots with intricate, mechanically moving parts. And its great distance from Earth places a terrible constraint on what we can manually accomplish: anything that requires a reaction faster than the round-trip light-travel-time must be accomplished in situ on Mars, without human intervention.
And yet, we’ve conquered the journey across interplanetary space to arrive at Mars. We’ve conquered the bonds of gravity, sending orbiters around Mars and landers to its surface. We’ve overcome the challenges of the Martian surface, with rovers that can cover dozens of kilometers over their lifetimes. And now, for the first time, we’re conquering the Martian atmosphere, with the successful demonstration of powered flight on another planet. What we’re witnessing is, in its own way, the culmination of our aeronautics technologies, but it’s also the start of something big: the aerial exploration of worlds beyond Earth.”
Yes, we are flying through the atmosphere of another planet! The era of orbiters, landers and rovers is no more, as they’re joined also by the first successful powered flight on another world.
Here are the challenges we’ve overcome so far, and here’s what all our successes just might lead to.
Fight like a good soldier, and if you sometimes fall through weakness, rise again with greater strength than before, trusting in God’s most abundant grace.
