In my previous post, I talked about how my laptop is basically my lifesaver. The fact it comes with a stylus makes it so much better. With it, I can highlight and take notes on PDFs but I can also take handwritten notes and even draw. Which for me, is what truly makes the difference, as I feel more comfortable taking handwritten notes.

Why digital notes? You don’t have to worry about forgetting a notebook, running out of pages or ink. You can go back and delete whatever mistake you have made without making a mess and it is very flexible. You can organize your notes whichever way you find convenient. Some apps even let you search your handwriting, which is something I didn’t know I needed. How many times have you tried looking for something in your notes and taken basically an eternity to find it? With digital notes, that is no longer a problem. Taking notes by hand helps you remember better than just typing. So taking the benefits of handwriting and the organizational benefits of going digital, you’ll have one of the most effective weapons at your disposal.

What apps do you use?

About a year ago I bought a little, black moleskin notebook. I picked a book without lines in hopes of escaping some of the linearity of my life. I have since freed myself of the most of the confining structures that bothered me then, but that’s a relatively boring history that I will skip.

Anyways, I have this little, black moleskin notebook. It’s not a diary or a journal. If lost and found somewhere, a stranger would not unveil any of my secrets or my fears. The notebook is only a reflection of the human experience. There are quotes, from the books I read or the people I meet. There are drawings of molecular structures and plants, depending on what courses I have been paying the most attention to lately. Although, on one page I drew a nearly perfect elephant. The majority of the pages have lists, or single lines of thought. These are fleeting moments that strike me as slightly more interesting than the usual babbling of my mind.

So what is the point of the little, black moleskin notebook? I could probably capture more, and in an elegant way, if I wrote about my days on lengthy pages of beautiful stationary. I could turn my sketches into great paintings or I could spend more time taking photos. But there is a romance in taking this tiny notebook, paired with a black felt tip pen, everywhere I go. I can read over the pages, and I feel the passion of all my moments come together.

Everyone should have a little, black moleskin notebook.

Revision session day 6/?

I’m still studying in advance for next sem’s chemistry class. So many key terms and people that I almost forgot about! My last chem class was back in my junior year of high school, but man, we still gotta keep these kinds of things in the hippocampus!

Visiting old notes while on my chemistry revision session. I saw the complete list of subjects that I have to take up this semester and I don’t think I’ll be able to focus on all of them equally if I don’t start reading things in advance.

I’m really excited about starting my second year in college as a psychology major, so I’m going to do things right by working twice as hard!

Hi Tumblr! I made this post in reply to an anon’s question in my ask box.

I use a total of eight pens for my classes and daily study sessions. I’ve stuck to the same brands since I was in high school, but if you have any suggestions, hit me up! I’d love to try new ones!

Stabilo Swing Cool Pink Highlighter

image
  • I use it for textbooks with white paper
  • The ink lasts for an entire school year (it depends on how much you highlight and how often you use it of course)
  • It doesn’t leave a mark at the back of thick and smooth paper
  • It could leave a mark at the back of thin paper

Dong-A Red Fine Tech 0.5 mm

image
  • I use it for the headings of my notes
  • Writes better on smooth paper (not the smooth glossy one!)

Sharpie Smear Guard Yellow Highlighter

image
  • I use it for newsprint textbooks
  • The way the color looks on the paper keeps me awake but it doesn’t hurt my eyes
  • It doesn’t have that distinct Sharpie marker smell!

Dong-A Black My-Gel XP 0.5 mm

image
  • I use it as an alternative for my BIC pen when it runs out of ink
  • Great for everyday writing

BIC Black Super EZ Smooth Ink 0.7 mm

image
  • I use it for everyday writing (I carry three of them in my pencil case)
  • It doesn’t lose ink even if I write for a long time
  • It almost looks like you’ve been writing with a fine tech, not a ballpoint pen
  • Basically, it’s my favorite pen
  • Smudges when used on smooth paper

Dong-A Blue Fine Tech 0.5 mm

image
  • I use it to emphasize important terms or phrases in my notes
  • Writes better on smooth paper (not the smooth glossy one!)

Unipin 0.3 mm Fine Line Water and Fade Proof Black Pigment Ink

image
  • I use it to outline the diagrams, tables and drawings in my notes
  • Sometimes used with the 0.1 mm and 0.8 mm ones (for artsy reasons)

Dong-A Black Fine Tech 0.5 mm

image
  • I use it for writing in my planner because it writes smoothly on the paper (the page from my planner as seen on the picture dates back to October 2014 because it’s the only page that looks really neat)
