final little push. I’ll be doing some work on my essay until probably 23rd, but interspersed with watching christmas films and going on dog walks, so fairly lowkey. fortunately the essay is super interesting + I’m so happy that this course has opened up so many different schools of thought and ways of reading in just one term! also extremely pleased with this table in my bedroom, now that my desk is gathering dust in my house for a couple of weeks. when I hurried back a couple of days ago, I did make it a priority to bring my laptop stand in my suitcase (people often ask - it’s this guy, and I couldn’t recommend it more! https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/braeda-laptop-support-bamboo-veneer-30384822/

hope everyone is safe, well + starting to wind down for the holidays. it’s been rough, and weird, recently and, really, all year, and the news is getting difficult to listen to again, but we’ve all pulled through and a bit of indulgence is certainly in order now!

still coming out of the other side of my last essay - an analysis of the objects in ulysses through the lens of this one bit of furniture in the ithaca episode. it was sohard but very rewarding, as studying ulysses always is, and it was kind of special to write this essay across the week of the hundredth anniversary of its publication. now to get myself to dublin for bloomsday!

tolkien-feels:

I love how Tolkien writes a book for children with the premise “A group of dwarves, a wizard and a hobbit need to go to a mountain where a dragon lives to reclaim a treasure!” and turns it into “The dragon dies in one sentence but the greed that accompanies such wealth breeds isolation, leading to both a humanitarian crisis and the breaking down of any diplomacy between political leaders, and although the hero selflessly gives away treasure (which he stole from his own friends) to try and avert bloodshed, a horrible battle ensues, and any happy ending is marred by the loss inherent to warfare, though the brave deeds of the soldiers should not be overlooked.” And then decades later people say his world is simplistic and black and white. Wild.

Here is my piece for #ofszine! The zine, featuring 50+ artists who draw their own version of a chosen scene, is currently available on Ko-Fi for $3, and all proceeds go to LGBTQIA+ charities.

Thanks to @c_leadraw for making this possible, I am so proud to have been featured in the first issue of this project, alongside with so many talented artists!

(Also this marked my first time drawing Alex and Henry, so I hope I did them justice✨)

Released from the weight of the jacket, Laurent rolled his shoulder, as he did sometimes after a long day in the saddle. Damen brought his hand up to squeeze Laurent’s shoulder gently— and then stopped.

Prince’s Gambit was by far my favorite out of the Captive Prince Trilogy. Golden Age vibes, Commander x Second-in-command, UST, it truly had it all to make me fall. This was one of the scenes that had me actually trembling while I was reading.

“I wanted to tell you that wherever I am, whatever happens, I’ll always think of you, and the time we spent together, as my happiest time. I’d do it all over again, if I had the choice. No regrets.”

Hi!

I just wanted to step by. I’m actually going through a weird phase right now, where i’m trying to „find my thing(s)“. So many of you guys seem to know and i’m actually unsure. Maybe i’m grey academia, maybe i’m gay academia, who knows! What i’m sure is that i’m kind of confused about all of the communities that have developed through the past few years where i haven’t been that active anymore. Also, i’m going through a hard phase where finding a job in arts and culture is basically impossible, so i’m not really sure what i’m still doing here. Maybe my thing is to remind you that you’re still good enough even if you’re unemployed!

Can someone update me on what’s been happening?

I always keep thinking about whether or not i should revive this tumblr. It feels like my followers are kind of inactive. Also, i actually finished my Masters degree last week. However, as you all know, the situation in arts and culture and music is kind of bad, so i do have a really bad chance of getting a job. I‘m still hunting for a job, so i’ve got a lot of time to kill at the moment. I kind of want to study something, but then again, i just want tonread and relax, because the past years have been so so stressful. Maybe i’m going to slowly change into a litblr, as i do have quite some books to photograph and read.

In the first week of April the weather turned suddenly unseasonably, insistently lovely. The sky was blue, the air warm and windless, and the sun beamed on the muddy ground with all the sweet impatience of June.
