I want to preface this whole thing by saying that valid criticism of karl is absolutely okay. mentioning that he travels unnecessarily during covid is okay. saying that he’s made some jokes in poor taste is okay. giving consructive criticism about tftsmp is okay.
what is not okay, is the way that our community talks about and treats karl. and as a neurodivergent person, I refuse to sit back and hold my tongue while people are ableist to him.
for anyone who doesn’t know, karl has adhd. I’m unsure the exact source on that, but he has mentioned it before. just throwing that out there.
firstly, one of the most common criticisms of karl that I see is that he’s too hyper, loud, and/or annoying, or that he talks too much. I’m going to break these down one-by-one just to show you why it’s so weird to say that.
calling karl annoying: probably the most obvious one. this is basically saying that when he expresses his neurodivergent symptoms, that’s just a bother and an annoyance, which is really ableist and upsetting to hear.
calling karl too hyper: karl just moves around a lot? and only in certain situations. when he’s excited, when he’s anxious, when he finds something funny, he’ll start moving around in his chair a lot or even stand up and crouch on top of it. on top of that, there are multiple instances of him happy-stimming on stream. karl moves around a lot, yes. but that isn’t a bad thing.
calling karl too loud: if it’s hard on your ears, turn your headphones down. people with adhd have a hard time with volume control, so sometimes end up shouting or whispering without really meaning to. and every person with adhd I know gets super loud when they’re excited.
saying karl talks too much: this one makes me shake with frustration because the same people saying karl talks too much are the same people praising dream/wilbur/ranboo for infodumping. why? probably because those three creators do it in a “cuter” (read: less intense) way than karl. when karl infodumps or talks a lot, it’s very messy and all over the place, and neurotypicals don’t like looking at that.
ableism against karl compared to it against other ccs is astounding. and what’s even more disturbing about it is that karl isn’t getting that ableist treatment when he acts like other neurodivergent ccs and acts like a “soft boy.” then everyone is fawning over him and infantilizing him. but once he starts getting louder and more openly neurodivergent, everyone flips so fast to saying he takes nothing seriously, that he’s a clout-chaser, that he’s annoying.
I’mso tired of people saying all this nasty stuff about karl and getting away with it just because this fandom excuses ableism. ableism has become so normalized that it’s started to get out of control.

you and karl didn’t argue very often; most of the time you talked about your feelings rather than bottling them up until they explode. sometimes though, like most couples, arguments happened. just like today.
you didn’t mean for it to turn into an argument, you really didn’t. it just escalated so fast, your exchaustion making you irritable - which you were aware wasn’t an excuse, but it was the situation nonetheless. karl seemed pretty tired out too, having been streaming for the past few hours on the dream smp. overall, the timing and both your moods just wasn’t great, which is was lead to your current state.
instead of snapping too much, you decided to stop talking completely. an admittedly childish move, but you just didn’t have the energy to try and argue it out with karl. you were both in the wrong with the way you were acting, over something so trivial, so you decided to just shut up before you said something uncalled for that you most definitely didn’t mean. karl didn’t like the silent treatment from you, he hated that he was being purposely ignored when usually you two were very open with your feelings. being so close and communicative was one of the things he cherished so much, so to have it taken away wasn’t the best feeling in the world. you almost felt bad, but remembered the silly argument that was started just minutes before, so you decided to begin your night routine still in silence.
“hey have you saw my phone charger? i unplugged it earlier to plug my camera battery charger in,” karl asked from the bedroom, only to be met with silence. you were going to answer, but you weren’t willing to just pretend the argument didn’t happen - you wanted to talk it through, so it could be solved properly, but wanted to wait until you were both in the right head space. “really?” he called out after no response, just to confirm his suspicions when he had no response yet again. you heard a faint sigh come from him, causing you to speed up your night routine to get to bed as soon as possible.
you beat him to bed by about 10 minutes, still not having said a word, ready to just regain your energy and smooth everything over in the morning. but when you felt a body climb into bed next to you, you tensed up. now what? you usually cuddle with him every night you were there to fall asleep, so it felt unusual to be a small distance apart in the same bed. you didn’t like it at all. karl seemed to have these thoughts too, and luckily for you, he spoke up
“look, i know what’s going on here, but can we at least cuddle? we can talk it through in the morning, but honestly it was so petty, does it even need another discussion? i’m really sorry for being argumentative. we both shouldn’t have made it into something it didn’t need to be-” karl began to try and reason, but was cut off when he felt you dive into his arms. karl sighed (in relief this time), as he wasted no time in wrapping arms around your figure that was now curled into his chest.
“i’m sorry, too. you’re right, it was petty, and i made even more petty by ignoring you. i’m really sorry.” you said quietly, slightly muffled as your head was snuggled into his neck. “hey, it’s okay, i’m just glad it’s sorted. i love you.” you smiled at this, and karl could feel your lips curl up against his neck, causing him to smile too.
“i love you too. and now we’ve kept our streak of arguments never lasting more than a day” you giggled, thinking back at the very few arguments you’ve had before. you were so grateful for karl and the way you always worked through things, which is the last thing you thought of before falling into a deep sleep in his arms.

whewww jealous karl can go one of two ways
because he doesn’t like getting jealous, and he doesn’t want to seem over-the-top or petty
but there’s times that he just can’t help but feel a twang of jealousy in his chest that he simply can’t hide
so one of the ways he (attempts) to hide it is by just going quiet
sometimes, on the smp server (whether you played with him or just occasionally tuned in as karl’s partner), people playfully flirted with you
it was harmless, as a lot of them flirt as a joke with most of their friends, but karl could sometimes get insecure or jealous
he’ll laugh along here and there, acting like he was with the conversation, but you saw right through it
so in these times, you’d grab karl’s hand in yours if you were with him, and deal with it yourself
you’d playfully shut people down, never being rude or blunt about it, and people almost always respected that
as they were of course aware you were with karl
so honestly? they probably did it to play him up anyway, so they knew when it was time to stop
and that kind of jealously wouldn’t ever last long, and karl would even throw a joke in there about him actually having a partner to some of the others when it was over
the other way he sometimes dealt with jealousy, which was a lot rarer, was when he took action and made it very obvious he was with you
this was for more for situations where someone was actually flirting with you, rather than just his friends being idiots
for example, once you were helping him out with a mrbeast video, behind the scenes
a group of jimmy’s viewers were featuring in a challange video, along with some of the mrbeast team
one of them, although probably not aware you were with karl, decided to try and make a move on you rather shamelessly
and karl? yeah he wasn’t so happy about that
so he decided to make it very clear you were together when he knew they were looking or trying to get your attention
when the camera wasn’t on him (and the person trying to flirt with you’s eyes were) he’d walk up and wrap his arms around you from behind
and you’d know exactly what was going on, so you left him to it, smiling at his antics
he’d press a few soft kisses onto your neck, which he usually only ever did in private, further confirming he was jealous
“you okay?” you asked softly, despite knowing the situation, as you found it funny
“mhm,” he mumbled as he took the opportunity to press a kiss to your cheek while your head was turned towards him, “just showing some appreciation for my partner is all”
you’d smirk at this, noticing the emphasis on ‘my partner’
he stayed like that for another 5 minutes, still showering you with affection (and shooting daggers to the person who made their move)
until he eventually was called away to be on camera again, so he pressed a kiss to your lips and called “see you in a bit, babe” way louder than necessary
you rolled your eyes and shook your head, but you couldn’t help but smile at his childish behaviour
