Hi friends! Here are some penguins I made. I’m learning needle felting for fun.
I took a little time off from tumblr, but I thought I’d stop in tonight to say hello. I took a break because I realized that doing art for money is a bit stressful for me. In fact, I kind of stopped painting altogether for a while. I still put art into my Redbubble shop now and then, because I can upload it and forget about it. But I feel much better now that I’ve deactivated my Etsy shop and I don’t have to be ready to paint something at any time! I found out I prefer painting for myself and for gifts, and I’m glad I discovered that about myself.

Every now and then someone messages me and asks if they can commission a painting, and if I feel up to it I say yes! If I don’t, I thank them very nicely and decline. This approach is much more peaceful for me.
I hope you’ve been having a nice year! Remember that you never need to monetize your hobbies if you don’t want to. Using your hobbies to rest and to invest in self care is more important, I think.

how strange it is, for someone to exist where they are, yet with you. how a certain scent reminds you of how a friend used to bake their cookies, how distant laughter sends your head instinctively turning. how my senses were taught to alert me of you even when you’re so far gone, like a dog sitting at a train station day after day, awaiting its owner who might never come home.
