[ID: A digital illustration of Orym and Dorian Storm from Critical Role. Orym sits on a bed and Dorian crouches next to him. Orym’s face has several cuts and Dorian looks at Orym’s injuries with concern as he gently holds Orym’s face to cast healing magic on him. Dorian says “You really ought to be more careful.” Orym looks at Dorian, blushing. End description.]

I simply think if Orym’s gonna get the shit beaten out of him in every battle he should also get lovingly healed afterwards

some of you need to go outside and I dont mean that in a mean or condescending way I mean it in a “you would benefit from talking to real people face to face, and developing social skills” type way

genuinely tho. more and more frequently i interact with people online who shock me with how young they act for how old they are, because i associate that level of social and interpersonal inability with fucking. fourteen year olds. there is a noticeable deterioration of social skills and it’s annoying as someone who actually knows how to talk to people, because i find myself having to almost parent people basically my age into learning how to properly communicate. no, just saying insults and then adding /lh does not mean you’re friends with someone. you can’t just call someone a bitch or a whore or any type of slur and get surprised when they aren’t okay with that, because if you actually took a step outside you’d realize those are words that have a whole lot of weight behind them and online get thrown around by social infants with no clue how to properly talk to people.

people are always coming to tell me that i’m very nice or very welcoming, and i don’t know how to explain this to you, but it’s because i have actual social skills. i know how to be polite. i know how to listen to people. i know how to actually form healthy relationships with people who aren’t just words on a screen. and it’s come to my realization that not everyone does, which makes it extra exhausting to keep up conversations with literal adults who don’t even understand the basics of interpersonal communication.

this puts it into words well ty

tags from @/lemonberry-conda and they’re entirely correct

I do viscerally get the “this just does not come naturally to me so I am not even going to try (and make a virtue of not trying) but: there is value in learning and practicing social skills. There is value in trying to be kind, in trying to communicate and connect, in practicing empathy and compassion. And they all absolutely take practice! Watch, learn, listen, ask questions, treat them as knowledge worth learning and keeping and refining, and don’t give up if it doesn’t go perfectly all the time.

Someone once explained small talk to me as an exchange of acknowledgements - "you are a person” “Yes, and you are also a person”. And, like, there is a huge amount of value contained in that exchange, and in the cultural shorthand we use for it.

My first and only clear, coherent thought yet about the Disney+ Daredevil news:

MAKE CHARLIE COX AN EXECUTIVE PRODUCER FOR THE SHOW.

Along the lines of how Tom Hiddleston was an executive producer for Loki because he had creative input regarding his show’s plot line.

Charlie has already shown how well-versed he is regarding Matt’s character. I posted on here a while ago the story of Charlie requesting for a specific line of dialogue they were making him say during Defenders about Matt regretting his blindness, and Charlie pointed out that it was contradictory to Matt’s disposition towards his disability in the comics. Charlie reads DD comics religiously. Iirc in a Zoom interview back in 2020, he even said he was currently checking out Zdarsky’s current run of the character.

Not to mention Charlie was even asking Spider-Man director Jon Watts if how he planned to do Matt’s comeback through his NWH cameo was proper and fitting for Matt. Charlie had that much concern for the character already, and that’s only a 1-min appearance!

My point is….LET CHARLIE HAVE CREATIVE INPUT.

this has probably been said elsewhere and better but i miss the days in star wars when the oppressive empire was made up of white men with british accents. that wasn’t an accident and it wasn’t a trivial decision, like they are the face and voice of power and oppression both in the past and today. giving these roles to women and people of color feels like… idk obfuscating or something? like don’t get me wrong i very much want more diversity in star wars, but the empire being a monolithic sea of white men with imperial accents, and the good guys being a diverse crowd of allies from all demographics, it implicitly communicated something important.

ok everyone is talking about how amazing it is that mary just accepts stede when he tells her his love is ed, which is absolutely true. but it’s not that she just accepts him, she looks like SUPER happy. and I think we also have to consider what this meant for her in this moment. this guy she had to marry who she didn’t particularly care for never put effort in their marriage. of course mary didn’t like it either, but she always TRIED and was consistently frustrated that stede had given up from the get go. even tho they didn’t love each other, that shit probably hurt. mary must have thought stede hated her so much that he didn’t even see the point in trying with her, which would make anyone feel like shit. but now that she knows that stede was just gay and she could never give him that love and satisfaction, it shows her that she wasn’t doing anything wrong and explains his complete lack of effort. she understands now that it was stede, not her, and now they can both be happy

I fucking hate texas I hate that abortions are more restricted than the guns that cause preventable mass shootings at schools and churches and Walmart and and and and it just goes on like this… it’s “protect the children” “what about the children” until the children are murdered in their elementary school and then it all “thoughts and prayers” “there’s nothing we can do” “don’t bring up gun control now it’s disrespectful to the victims” but I bet all 14 children and that 1 teacher would still be alive if we had any sort of gun laws

the real “problem with political correctness” is not that it’s considered offensive to use slurs, but that there are now many “progressive” environments where saying the right things is more important than doing the right thing. it’s why it’s so easy for abusers to gain traction in leftist circles (they learn the right words quickly and employ them to frame their own behavior as progressive); it’s why so much potential activist energy gets poured into fighting about language; it’s why moderate liberals didn’t believe fer/guson had a problem until the police emails with actual racist language were leaked. (you can do racist things, you just can’t SAY racist things.) i don’t have a neat conclusion here but a related point is that i’m so much happier since i started focusing on like, being a good kind caring person instead of trying to remove the word “crazy” from the vocabulary of everyone in my family

I rewatched Captain America: The Winter Soldier recently, and I remembered a good part of movies and tv shows is making sure the home sets reflect the characters. A lot of thought goes into the decorating and props of a character’s home in order to seem believable and make the scene work. What this means for me is that whatever is in Sam Wilson’s DC house/apartment is canon information about Sam in the MCU, and I thought I would compile and share with you all what I found in case there are any other fic writers and such who would love to use this information. So here goes:

✨Canon Information and Interests about Sam Wilson✨

He doesn’t refrigerate his mustard. I mean, you don’t technically have to refrigerate mustard, but it is recommended in order for it to last long/taste as good. So what can we gather from this? Sam is a mustard heathen. He doesn’t care about the flavor at all. He’s a mad man who eats so much mustard he doesn’t need to refrigerate it because the bottle won’t last long in his house. I can only imagine he puts mustard or barbecue sauce on everything.

Sam has a baseball trophy. So sometime ago, maybe in high school or college, he used to play baseball. Apparently he was pretty good too, or at least proud of his playing, if he has a trophy sitting on a shelf in his kitchen. Is this why he’s so good at throwing the shield? Or he could have also been playing baseball with his fellow Air Force members. Do you think he tried to get the Avengers to form a company baseball team?

Also I don’t have it pictured, but you can see an example of one in a screenshot three below, Sam also has several golf balls sitting around his apartment. Now either Sam just likes to fiddle with golf balls or he also likes to play golf (just like Mackie). So if you want to write about Sam being a sports person, he canonically plays baseball and golf.

He likes wine. Maybe loves wine. As we can see in this shot, he has a fancy wine rack hanging on his wall. Yes, it’s just wood, but who would go through that much effort to hang a wine rack instead of getting one to set on a counter or something (just my personal thoughts). I feel hanging the wine rack is supposed to show off his wine collection, because he loves his wine.

Also in his dining room, he has a huge bowl/vase full of wine corks. Again, I feel only wine fanatics would do something like that, because when I’m done with wine I just recycle and call it a day. Conclusion, Sam loves wine.

Sam loves music. I know we figured that with his whole Marvin Gaye obsession (understandable). But I really need to point out how much he loves music. His entire table is filled with stacks on stacks of CD’s (and also that golf ball I was telling you about). At least 30 CD’s. Not only that he also owns a record player. Not only that but he has several speakers.

At least four small speakers scattered throughout his kitchen and dining room, and also one very large speaker in his dining room. The man not only loves music, he makes sure he can listen to it well wherever he is in his house. That takes dedication.

Other small things I wanted to point out:

He likes the smell of coconut.

He keeps a 50 lb (?) dumbbell on his kitchen counter. wtf Sam

He likes Cookie Crisp cereal. Now one could argue this is for his nephew Cass when he visits (who is probably like what 3ish when the events of CA:TWS take place? i’m not good with guessing child ages), but I like to fully believe Sam digs Cookie Crisp cereal.

Thanks for reading

Yk something that lowkey really bugs me? I hate how often when people talk about Steven Universe in terms of LGBTQ rep, there’s always this stupid ‘I know, but’ angle to it. Quite frankly, I don’t give a shit about the stuff other people don’t like about its writing (hell, quite frankly there are plenty of things that are arguably better regarded which I find less compelling or worse written). It was a series with not just one or two but literally dozens of queer characters, and told a story about self-acceptance and fighting against bigoted systems of power that spoke to me and a lot of people, one which didn’t pretend prejudice and abuse don’t exist like some shows with LGBTQ rep like to. And it did it before almost any other kid’s shows even touched the subject- you wouldn’t have stuff like She-Ra or TOH without it and their showrunners have basically said as much. It deserves to be treated as the jewel in the crown of Gay Cartoons and not just some also-ran.

nicislive:

Episode-by-episode, all of the pieces setting up the relationship between Quentin and Eliot, and Quentin and the Monster. No fancy out-of-context editing, no extra music or lingering shots, just the actual show as it aired. It was one of the most beautiful, complicated pieces of writing I’ve ever seen. Quentin loved the Monster’s face while the person he loved was trapped. This was such a well-executed plot, as we watched Quentin spiral into depression as he couldn’t save Eliot. It seemed to be setting up such an incredible reunion; we couldn’t wait!

For the first 10 episodes of the season, this plot thread was so clear. And then… no payoff. Nothing.

It’s been 3 months and I’m still upset. I don’t understand why you would write this incredible story and just drop it. I made this video in part to see if I had mis-remembered. Was I projecting things into the story that weren’t there?

No.

I’ll never understand this.

Absolutely spot-on. And this doesn’t even address Eliot’s horrifyingseries ending… Ugh. I get upset even considering it.
