I’ve just discovered my new favorite painter, Vittorio Reggianini - those smarter than myself probably already know of him as an Italian painter from the 1800s who made satin look even satiny-er than satin. I just cannot get over how much he loved painting women who were NOT. HAVING. A. MAN’S. SHIT.
But there was one hottie that everyone seemed to like, and I can’t blame them…
Vittorio knows what the ladies like.
Vittorio Reggianini was a 19th-century Italian genre painter specializing in scenes of bourgeois life. Born in Modena, Italy in 1858, Reggianini was part of a group of artists called the “Costume Painters,” who sought to revive the sophistication of the past by painting a romanticized version of the culture during a time of great military conflict. He skillfully painted contemporary fashion and opulence, especially focused on painting the silks and satins of dresses and floor and wall coverings. He studied and later taught at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Modena, Italy. The artist died in 1938.
Henrik Olrik (May 24, 1830 - 1890) was a Danish sculptor, decorator, designer and painter. He trained as a sculptor at the Royal Academy, made figurines, silverware, and even designed the first Danish 10 Kroner bill.
However, it was portraits of members of the Royal House, such as King Christian IX, that buttered his bread. He had excellent technique as witnessed by this genre piece:
Bruden smykkes af sin veninde, 1859 - oil on canvas (SMK)
Peter Hansen (May 13, 1868 - 1928) was a Danish painter, considered one of the three original members of Fynboerne, a group of primarily landscape painters, who were the core students at Zahrtmann’s alternative Academy, Kunstnernes Frie Studieskole in the late 1880s.
Hansen was a native of Faaborg on Funen, and kept his house there which served as a summer base for him and his painter friends, Fritz Syberg (who married his sister) and Johannes Larsen. During winters Hansen and his family lived in Copenhagen. and he painted urban social realist sceneries. He also mastered portrait and genre painting.

Carl Wentorf (April 25, 1863 - 1914) was a capable Danish genre and portrait painter. He studied at the Royal Academy in the 1880s and exhibited chiefly at the Charlottenborg seasonal shows. His works are found in good museums, such as Den Hirschsprungske and SMK.

Georg Seligmann (April 22, 1866 - 1924) was a Danish genre painter who had studied with P.S. Krøyer and Laurits Tuxen, after which he traveled extensively abroad, studying old masters (particularly Frans Hals).
He exhibited at Forårsudstillingen at Charlottenborg and later at Den Frie. He did quite a few architecture paintings and portraits, including a whole show of “Doctor portraits” (apparently he was hospitalized for long periods towards the end of his life).
He is represented at Den Hirschsprungske Samling and Statens Museum for Kunst, from where this canvas comes:
