feeling utterly zapped lately … just from the ‘data dumps’ as i call them, relaying symptoms and history to a variety of people, intake, evals, dr. appointments, referral appointments. repeating the same info that was filled out on multiple versions of the same forms.

i’ve resorted to filling out them out interspersed with heavy sarcasm just to see if they’re being read or just entered verbatim into the system. i need to amuse myself a bit anyway… referred by: unicorn magic; known allergies: forms, symptoms: checkbox blindness; capitalism, symptoms: severe depression, financial despair…

i’ve lost another 9 lbs. so my clothes need extra cinching. since i don’t seem to throw things out, i can just pull out things i’ve not been able to fit in for a few years… a reason to hoard — practical! ;)

art is progressing slowly due to exhaustion, though i’m still writing frequently, making plenty of doodles and notes for determination.

i’ve had a drive in my NAS fail on me, so my tech/digital archives are in need of a bandaid or replacement [$!]… le sigh…

now seeking applications for various open positions:

the above doodle is something i’ve been thinking about for a while, in various permutations of the same theme… illustrating atlas as capitalism… this one being the most concrete. not sure what form the final will be in…

Potato bed remnants in Mayo, Ireland from 1845–52

Potato bed remnants in Mayo, Ireland from 1845–52

Land holdings were so small and of such poor quality that families could support themselves only through the planting of potatoes. To know why so many Irish families subsisted on such small plots of land, one must re-examine the ‘Penal Laws’ which were introduced in 1690 after the Catholic supporters of James II were defeated by the Protestant forces of William of Orange. These were laws that…

#OTD in 1848 – At Grosse Île, Canada, 40 immigrant vessels wait to unload.

The island of Grosse Île lies 30 miles downstream of Quebec City in the St. Lawrence River. Once a quarantine station for ships bringing immigrants to the Canadas from Europe, mid-nineteenth-century outbreaks of cholera and typhus led to several thousand Irish deaths aboard ships in quarantine and on Grosse Île itself. This trauma has lived on in the Irish diaspora’s memorialisation of the island…

Ireland 1847

Asenath Nicholson “When I stood in the burying-ground, I saw the brown silken hair of a young girl, waving gently through a little cleft of stones, that lay loosely upon her young breast. They had not room to put her beneath the surface, but slightly, and a little green grass was pulled and spread over, and then covered with stones. I never shall forget it.” Taken from The Truth Behind The Irish…

I wish … Famine from Good Omens played by Ben Barnes.

A rider of the Apocalypse in Good Omens. He took the form of a thin businessman man with black hair named Raven Sable. He created nouvelle (which consisted of a string bean, a couple of peas and a paper-thin slice of chicken), D-Plan dieting and various foods that contained no actual nutrition whatsoever. He enjoys the paradox permitted by modern food technology: that people can eat “foodstuffs” which look, smell, and taste like food, yet contain precisely zero on any scale of nutritive value. Obesity entertains him: the concept that people can eat far too much and yet still die of food-related disorders. For the same reasons, wafer-thin professional anorexics (who our society dignifies with the title supermodels) are always a welcome sight to him. If you pointed out the existence of starving children in Africa, he’d be professionally flattered that you’d noticed. He has a major controlling interest in a fast-food superchain spanning the globe. In fact, he invented fast food burgers.

He is glad to sign autographs, adding impenetrable Biblical aphorisms and profundities. Well, if you know your Bible, you’d know the code: he sees it as a sort of Quality Control, affirming that he is scrupulously working within the limits assigned to him by a higher Power and which are clearly set out in the Book of Revelations, if you know how to read it.

Famine – who goes by the name of Dr. Raven Sable, at least during canon: if he’s had other names, they’re not mentioned – looks like a “pleasant, thrusting, successful businessman” (338). He’s thin, of course. He has black hair, a short black beard, and he dresses all in black. He has “dark grey eyes” (63). The International Express delivery-man finds him from the description of a “tall gent with a beard, nice suit.”

Gettin’ really fucking tired of living in these “interesting times.”

I would be veryinterested in alternateinteresting times–like breakthroughs in space travel and the abolition of capitalism–but not the interesting times we’re currently faced with.

You know what? You want my opinion? These particular “Interesting Times” are actually Boring. It’s all reruns, and remakes, and sequels to the Nth.

History of Ireland: Before the famine of 1845 it was young men, sons of farmers or craftsmen who left Ireland. After 1845 the population concerned is family, feminized and poorer. The poorest migrate to Great Britain, while the others cross the Atlantic.

Many challenges exist when there aren’t enough oil supplies. For example, consider North Korea. After the Korean War, the USSR helped North Korea develop modern agriculture. When the USSR collapsed, the flow of cheap oil suddenly dried up. Agricultural machines had to be put out of service. A return to traditional cultivation methods was aggravated by over-fertilized land, and the proportion of people employed in agriculture was increased from 25% to 35% to compensate for the loss of 80% of the agricultural machines. Despite this, harvests dropped by 60% between 1989 and 1998.

The families losing their loved ones to hunger suicide in Afghanistan

People are dying by suicide across Afghanistan because of starvation, as the US has frozen the Afghan Central Bank’s assets and the IMF suspended access to funds after the Taliban takeover. The World Bank had also halted funding for the country—though it has now approved a package of $1 billion to address the population’s urgent needs. More than half the population, around 23m Afghans, are suffering from hunger. Millions of dollars in lost income after the collapse of the government, soaring food prices, a liquidity crisis, and shortages of cash have deprived much of the population of access to food, water, shelter, and health care.

The Choctaw-Irish Brotherhood(via)

I love stuff like this. Didn’t a tribe in Africa send America some cows after 9/11? Like this is holy and the most valuable thing we have. We hear your suffering and want to do anything in our power to help

It was not a potato famine. The famine didn’t happen because of the potato yeald failing. Ireland was actually producing more than enough food. However it was almost all land owned by Brittish landowners, who took all of the food out of the country to sell in UK. Potato was what the Irish farmers ate, because it was cheep and could be produced in worst parts of the land, where more profitable food couldn’t be grown. When there were no longer potatos, the decision for the farmers was to either starve and sent the food as rent to the landlords or loose their homes and then starve.

The Brittish goverment was unwilling to do anything for two reasons. First was the laissez-faire capitalistic ideology, that put the rights of property owners to make profits above human lives. Rent freeze was unthinkable and they even were unwilling to do proper relief efforts as free food would lower the cost of food. The second reason was distain for the Irish, and the thought that they were “breeding too much” and the famine was a natural way to trim down the population, aka genocidal reasoning.

This is why it’s important to stress it was not a potato famine. The potato blinght was all over Europe but only in Ireland there was a famine. The reasons behind it had nothing to do with potatos and everything to do with the Brittish.

Apparently what made Choctaw want to offer relief to Irish was the news about the Doolough Tragedy. Hundreds of starving people were gathered for inspection to verify they were entitled to recieve relief. The officials would for *some reason* not do that and instead left to a hunting lodge 19 kilometers away to spend the night and said to the starvqing people they would have to walk there by morning to be inspected. The weather conditions were terrible and many of them died completely needlessly during the walk thoroung day and night.

This apparently reminded the Choctaw of their own very recent (and much more explicit and bigger scale) experiences of ethnic clensing, where they were forcibly relocated. It was basically a death march and thousands of Choctaw died from the terrible conditions also completely needlessly.

In 2015 a memorial named Kindred Spirits was installed in Southern Ireland to commemorate the Chactow donation.
