#chimera
The Chimera is a multi-headed beast from Greek mythology, originally used to refer to a single creature but these days the term is applied to a whole class of multi-hybrid creatures, both in fantasy settings and science, so nobody really cares about naming the whole species from one individual.
If the Chimera even was a single individual. Descriptions of this beast vary, though some features remain the same.
- Head of a lion
- Also head of a goat
- Sometimes that goat head comes off the middle of the body, not the traditional head end.
- Some translations make it sound like it’s the goat head, and only the goat head, which breathes fire. And for some reason it can’t breathe it ‘up’ very well, making flying steeds advantageous for combat.
- Tail of a serpent, which is sometimes the head of a serpent attached to a tail
- Usually an omen for disaster, and which this mis-matched random disorganized appearance, it’s no wonder.
I mean, what business does this creature have putting heads all over the place, where there’s not reason for it to have heads? I know it seems to be a bit of a Greek Mythos thing, they sure do like sticking heads and snakes to everything, but the chimera is frankly ridiculous. Two or three heads is just too many and why is there disagreement on the number of heads? That should be a reasonably consistent observation, even for a hassled and terrified observer.

I like the pose of the 1st drawing but the design of the 2nd one, influenced by Chinese Guardian Lions.
