I’m sure that as a child, Ben often nursed Chewie and I waited for their interactions in the film until the last :,(

CHEWIE!!!
May the 4th be with you!

This May 4th we highlight everyone’s favorite woolly character, Chewbacca the Wookiee – or, as Princess Leia once referred to him as “this big walking carpet.” Trusty first officer of Han Solo’sMillennium Falcon, he is loyal, fearsome, and a Wookiee of … well, many words, but all of it unintelligible.

These images are from the Dark Horse comic book Star Wars, Chewbacca, produced as a limited series of four issues published from January 2000 to April 2000 (we only hold numbers 2-4). The story is written by Darko Macan. The credits for the issues shown here are as follows:

Issue No. 2: illustrated by Jan Duursema and Dave Gibbons, penciled by Dusty Abell, inked by Jim Royal, and colored by Color Graphix, Angus McKie, and Dave Nestelle.
Issue No. 3: illustrated by Martin Egeland and Kilian Plunkett, penciled by John Nadeau, inked by Jordi Ensign, and colored by Dan Jackson, Color Graphix, and Dave Nestelle.
Issue No. 4: illustrated by Rafael Kayanan, penciled by Dusty Abell, inked by Jim Royal, and colored by Heroic Age and Dave Nestelle.

Our copy is a gift from our comic book consultant Jim Lowder.

This is it!  Our Solo: A Star Wars Story coup de grâce!

SPOILERS abound beyond this point as Joshua and David welcome guests TIM MCFARLAND and BRIAN ASHTON as the quartet undertakes a SOLO: DISSECTION episode!

Finally sitting down to tear into Solo: A Star Wars Story your co-hosts and their guests crack open the brand new Official Guide to the movie written by Lucasfilm story group head honcho Pablo Hidalgo!

Using the official guide as a map the group covers nearly every aspect of the film giving our opinions and commentary on what we liked, what we didn’t like, and what we hope to see in future STAR WARS ANTHOLOGY films!

PLUS if this conversation leaves you wanting more, fear not!  As you’d expect by now with these episodes, we ran long and had to cut some sections for time, however we are putting those cut segments together for a future bonus episode!

So look for that coming up on TRIO SIMPATICO!

Another example of a gorgeous, intricate foreground, ephemeral background, and delicate character linework by Al Williamson. My favorite part of this panel is how the moss overlaps with Luke’s speech bubble, which emphasizes the power of nature over the designs of man. My least favorite part is our boys’ apparent disregard for gun safety.

Mermay Day 4 - “star wars”

That is not Chewbacca at left. That’s Jo-Jo, the Russian Poodle Man, and this is Barnum & Bailey’s Sideshow arriving in France. This original Strobridge design was translated and printed in Paris (a French tax stamp is at upper left), delivering une piquant je ne sais quoi to Little Peter the Great; John MacDonald, the Human Mastodon; Koguri, the Japanese Artist Without Arms; miniature Queen Mab; and some 30 other prodigies of nature. Magnifique!

Available at auction February 25, 2018.
