police officers arent people
Behind those names were real people. None of them were perfect, and some were deeply troubled, but they were human beings with ambitions, families, quirks, passions, and personality — and that’s how their communities and loved ones will always remember them.
If you’re feeling lost, here are 11 names we shouldn’t forget, all from the first half of 2016:
1. Philando Castile, 34. Killed in Falcon Heights, Minnesota, on July 6.
2. Alton Sterling, 37. Killed in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on July 5.
3. Jay Anderson, 25. Killed in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, on June 23.
4. Ollie Lee Brooks, 64. Killed in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on May 28.
5. Michael Moore, 19. Killed in Mobile, Alabama, on June 13.
6. Michael Eugene Wilson, 27. Killed in South Florida on May 22.
7. Lionel Gibson, 21. Killed in Long Beach, California, on May 8.
8. Kimani Johnson, 18. Killed in Baltimore on April 1.
9. Jessica Nelson Williams, 29. Killed in San Fransisco on May 19.
10. Peter Gaines, 35. Killed in Houston on March 12.
11. David Joseph, 17. Killed in Austin, Texas, on Feb. 8.
Everyone, here’s how we can help support the movement! ❤️
#BlackLivesMatter. And if you think it doesn’t, unfollow me
That shit in Minneapolis mainey, to think shit like that can happen 5 minutes away from my college campus. I go to that Target and Wendy’s a couple times a month during the school year.
To all my followers:
The men and woman who stormed DC are not your friends. They are neo-nazi terrorists. They are what we fought back in WW2 on the beaches of Normandy and streets of Berlin. Yes, it can happen here.
They are not patriots, they are disgraces. They are traitors, treasonous. They are cancer.
Bring them back to DC with their heads on silver plates.
Our county has been tainted by these people long enough. Its time to take back control. Be a patriot and fight back against fascism. Protect your loved ones. Use your second amendment, use your platforms.
Fear will not control us.
Hate will not divide us.
I went to the G7 summit (to protest)
Hello to all activists and acti-curious peeps, as well as everyone else who cares about the planet. Last weekend I went to Cornwall as part of XR (Extinction Rebellion), where the G7 summit was taking plact, to protest world leaders’ complacent inaction on the climate crisis. Sadly, G7 leaders are failing us on climate change, and we are #DrowningInPromises.
This video is a collection of highlights from those two days. There are bits of talks by activists including Marvina Newton, as well as mini-interviews with rebels that I filmed myself. If you are curious what an XR protest is really like and/or want to learn more, check it out!
When you say “All Lives Matter” when I say “Black Lives Matter” it sounds like your saying “Black lives don’t matter as much.” And are things to condescend and minigate the importance of our message. And if “All Lives Matter” then “Black Lives” are included and you should be just as mad and heartbroken and standing with us.
When you say “White lives matter too.” when I say “Black Lives Matter” It sounds like you are saying “White lives matter more then black lives.” And it makes me feel like you see me as a traitor of my race for defending another. I akwoldge I have white privlage but at least I can use it to help anyway I can.
When you say “They are all just thugs who are looting and setting things on fire.” when I say “Black Lives Matter" you are only choosing to focus on the handful of the most radical and misguided of those involved and willfully ignoring the peacful protesrs who are using their voice instead of their hands. .
Those are crimes and that is wrong, But the only casualty were things, items, objects that could be replaced and profit, no one was harmed. Murdering unarmed indaviduals based on skin color and suspicion and brutallizing peaceful protesters is arguably much worse. They WERE harmed while not committing any crime other then speaking out and going about their day. Even if they did do something wrong, you should be arrested lawfully and investigated. Not murdered.
When you say “Blue Lives Matter” when I say “Black Lives Matter” it sounds like you are saying “Police matter more and should not be held accountable when they cross a line or take a life unjustly.”
Police know when they signed up that they put their lives on the line everyday to protect and serve others. They knew that there would be a chance they could get hurt or die to protect the community. Black people did not sign up to be black or be killed for doing everyday things or to be asssumed guilty and suspicious wherever they go or whatever they are doing. You can take off a uniform. You cant take off your skin.
When I say “ Black Lives Matter” I am merely stating a truthful fact. If you deny the truth or try to divert it, you are part of the problom, I’m trying be part of the solution.
For eveyone griping about looting, here are some alternative things to get mad about!
1.) if we are mad at looting then we should return every single artifact and curio in our museums that we have looted from other countries.
2.) Maybe we should start arresting and prosecuting the assholes who buy diapers and sanitizer in bulk to illegally resell at an insane cost while poor families who actually need those items can’t get any because of it.
3.) You should be mad at the double standard of how police treat different protests. Armed “protesters”were allowed to enter a government building WITH THEIR GUNS to politically intimidate, threaten & terrorize politicians who wanted to protect the community with the quarantine. Some even physical pushing police in riot gear but the police did not react and instead protected them. But protesters who seek justice and accountability for a black man brutally murdered by a police officer get beaten, shot at, pepper sprayed and tear gassed.
4.) the more radical protesters who have been causing property damage WHO DO NOT represent the majority of peaceful protestors are going to be grouped as a whole by the right wing to excuse the police brutality against the regular law abiding protestors and black people.
5.) And finally and most importantly, the four fired officers each have a prior history of police brutality that was swept under the rug and ignored STILL have not been charged with MURDERING the unarmed, handcuffed and helpless George Floyd. Everyone SHOULD be irate at THAT!
tw // murder, police brutality
A 15 year old girl named Makhia Bryant from Columbus Ohio was shot four times in the chest by police, just as the verdict was being read. She was who called them for help.
Family: 15-year-old girl shot and killed by police officer in southeast Columbus
Edit: the correct spelling of her name is Ma’Khia and she was 16yrs old not 15. all this was confirmed by her mother Paula Bryant.
