Not going to lie, it’s genuinely upsetting to think about the new “fans” who are going to judge Legend of Korra, without knowing about all of the horrible things that Nickelodeon did to Bryke.
Two things I always remind fans of/tell new fans:
1) they had to FIGHT the network to make the next avatar a girl in this series
2) they could not overtly develop the Korrasami romance. They had to get permission just for that last scene with them holding hands and going into the spirit world and the strong implications the moment had. It really makes me upset when people credit Nickelodeon for “giving is Korrasami”. They didn’t want it.
What people always remind ME about:
1) the last two seasons didn’t even air on television, only online.
3) Nickelodeon originally only bought one season and lead everyone to believe it would be a one and done type deal. Partway through production of the first season (the latter half if I’m remembering correctly) Nickelodeon suddenly changed their minds and ordered three additional seasons so the writers had to scramble and change things last minute when a good chunk of season 1 was finished and/or had started airing.
This is why season 1 seems like its own thing, has a different tone, and speeds through the plot. It’s also why season 2′s beginning is particularly rough and it takes a while for the show to get back on its feet.
4) Partway through production of season 4, Nickelodeon slashed their budget by no small amount out of the blue. The reason why the recap episode exists and reuses previous footage while AtLA got the Ember Island Players episode was because that was the only way they could deal with the sudden lack of money without sacrificing their vision for the finale.
5) The finale was pulled from it’s air block/location with less than a week’s notice and put on Nickelodeon’s website’s streaming option which sucked at the best of times and could not handle that many people trying to watch at the same time. If they were able to watch at all.
One of the creators also had to take to his block shortly after the finale aired to clarify that Korra and Asami were dating and were bi because they could only get away with the handholding scene and there were a ton of fans at the time saying that it was unclear and they were just very good friends. Yes, in 2014 people were still saying that anything short of tongues down throats or sex scenes meant that they were just gals being good pals.
Also it wasn’t just that Korra was a woman Nickelodeon had an issue with, it was that she was a woman of colour. A white female avatar they would have grumbled about but eventually came around to, but they fought the creators to make Korra anything other than a woman of colour and they hated that one of their most popular shows with the older demographic starred someone who was neither male nor white.
And for that they did everything in their power to fuck over production so that they could cancel the show and point to the numbers as a reason why they did it, not because they’re racist, sexist, and homophobic.

I love Zuko so much I can draw him everyday my boy
I love my friends, and I know they love me when I get messages with random long-haired Zuko art.
Thank you @lord-elmo
I feel I need to explain that post. I received a ton of positive feedback but then I feel some really misunderstood. The reason why we used Asian people:
- Bo Lin, Mako, Asami & Tahno are Asia based names.
- Also the girl as Korra is actually Half African and Half Filipino.
This was not a casting post. This I think a lot misunderstood. My sister said it was just people she thought would look most like them if they were real. All of them are actors except the girl (Amira) next to Korra. She’s actually a model.
That really all I wanted to address. Thanks for the reblogs and feedback!
Let me know if you want us to make another.
I was not being racially biased because I’m Chinese. I just found it a lot easier. Plus their names and other reasons moved me to do so.

During the Avatar the Last Airbender” Legend and Legacy Panel, two art books were given away as prizes by accident. They were both signed, and one of them had a folded poster (also signed) on the inside of the book.
These art books were my books. The Avatar the Last Airbender book has signatures from so many of the talents from the show, especially a signature by Ryu next to my favorite Smellerbee. The funny thing is, I know how they were given as prizes by mistake, and I have an idea of which cosplayers may have them, but I have no idea how to contact them.
I am sure it is extremely exciting to be gifted art books with dozens of drawings, sentiments, and signatures, I hate to ask this… but if you have these books, would you contact me? I would like to send you brand new books in exchange for the return of my books. They are not signed for “Avatar_Mom”, they are signed for “Star”. That is my name…
I believe that cosplayer 7 from the cosplay contest, or Kuvira number 8 may be the awesome fans caring for them now. But, any of the winners could have them now, so I would love if fans would check. If you were at the Avatar the Last Airbender: Legend and Legacy Fan Panel, and know these great fans, (or you are these fans), I will not only send you your own copies, but I will pay for the shipping costs, and I will send you a thank you gift for their return. I have years of memories in both the art books. The poster in one of the books is a poster I had signed for a fan who could not attend SDCC.
Thank you so much for your time and thoughts everyone! Most important, thank you for attending our wonderful panels.Help this wonderful woman out!
Be nice and return her books. Don’t make fandom a worse place by being selfish. Accidents happen and you’d want your stuff back too.

Avatar the Last Airbender Conclusions:
Aang, Azula, and Toph are all Slytherin Secondaries– flexible, adaptive, and reactionary, they all apply the methods of that secondary very differently. Aang avoids, Azula manipulates, and Toph lands constantly on her feet.
Aang and Azula are also both Slytherin Primaries, though Azula is a Burned one, afraid of loss and clinging to fear rather than connection. Aang’s Slytherin loyalties peculiarly show themselves in his idealistic struggles near the end of the third season and his dedication to his pacifism – the Air Nomads’ pacifism is the last part of Gyatso and his people that are still alive and he doesn’t want to abandon that or them.
Toph is a Gryffindor Primary, who judges right and wrong by her gut and prioritizes most being true to herself and her feelings.
Katara and Zuko share a sorting – Hufflepuff Primary/Gryffindor Secondary. They both find their moralities shifting as their communities and their idea of who counts as a “person” expand. They both charge at injustices with both great effect & also sometimes great damage to themselves.
Sokka is a rare Ravenclaw Primary/Ravenclaw Secondary in this cast. He’s been told all his life he should be a Gryffindor, a brave leader, but he’s most at home as a learner, a strategist, an inventor.
Like Sokka, Katara has been told all her life she should be a Hufflepuff, care-giving and generous. While she does maintain some of those skills, she learns to embrace the fierce certainty of her Gryffindor Secondary and rock the boat.
