every WEEK another reason to scream about afghanistan

Biden wants to steal the central bank’s assets and give half of it to the 9/11 families??? what the FUCK????? 3.5 BILLION DOLLARS STOLEN FROM AFGHANISTAN FOR THE FAMILIES? what year is it I’m having a stroke

Like literally………. Afghan people cannot get their own money from the bank and cannot easily access money sent to them from abroad, often money that they desperately need to feed their families and/or flee the country……….. because the US government wants to give half their money to 9/11 victims because ????? How are the people of Afghanistan responsible for 9/11 in LITERALLY ANY WAY? Oh yeah, and the other half of the money will be put in a trust fund for Afghanistan because Afghand are rebellious children who can’t be trusted with their own money.

@fursasaida@septembriseur I’m really glad to see people talking about this more!!

Sanctions / freezing-assets are pushing ordinary Afghans to starvation while doing nothing to “stop the Taliban,” it’s war-by-other-means post-troop-withdrawal.

Afghan Women’s Mission is collecting donations for the Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan.

CodePink is also holding vigils, etc, to amplify the call to unfreeze Afghanistan.

I don’t know how effective or well-organized the Avaaz fundraiser for famine relief is. Women For Afghan Women seems legit.

I have a feeling the person above understands even bigger economic ramifications of this issue!

“Yeah Hilary [sic] would probably have made a difference but hindsight is 20/20”

….sure, Hillary Clinton PROBABLY wouldn’t have appointed three right-wing nuts to the Supreme Court, sponsored a coup against the peaceful transfer of power, destroyed American internationalism and allied with dictators, run the presidency as a revolving-door crime syndicate, etc., etc., but you know, We Can’t Be Sure. EEEEMAILS.

Also “hindsight is 20/20?” There were plenty of us, myself fucking included, who at the time were desperately begging people to vote for her and warning about how dangerous Trump was. We were largely ignored, mocked, or outright demonized, and not just by Republicans. This isn’t fucking HINDSIGHT. We warned you AT THE TIME. Y'all just didn’t want to listen because blah blah blah Ideology, or something.

Own it. Then sure, we can start the next phase of the fight. But let’s not forget how we fucking got here.

2016: The attack on America’s election infrastructure | by Jennifer Cohn | May, 2022 | Medium

“In my opinion, Trump would have had a much more difficult time hijacking the election-security narrative in 2020 if the federal government had leveled with the American people about the severity of the 2016 attack and the vulerabilities that existed and if the Democratic party had made election security a key element of its platform and messaging in the aftermath of that attack. Moreover, the country still has not addressed some of the election-system vulnerabilities that left us open to attack in 2016. Because the federal government has unwisely (in my opinion) “moved on” from that attack, all urgency for passing federal election-security legislation seems to have vanished.

The following is my attempt to compile what we know about the circumstances leading to and surrounding the 2016 election-infrastructure attack. I begin with a brief history of Ukraine because what occurred there between the early 2000’s and 2014 set the stage for what occurred in America in 2016.”

What do we do with rabid animals like this?

Put it down.

What if it’s super early, and you wind up with no mother AND no baby?

They don’t care.

I don’t mean they don’t care about the mother or the baby. I mean, they don’t. But it’s beyond that.

They don’t care about the consequences at all.

See, there are two kinds of people who are pushing this crazy ass shit right now.

One kind, they’re old-school plutocrats. Their vision of America is one where the Federal government is utterly toothless - nothing but a military for protecting their interests - and the state legislatures are in their pockets. One where we don’t have rights, we have privileges, benefits which they have graciously allowed to us, and which they can rescind at any time. One where us little people are completely meaningless except as resources. In essence, they want feudalism. They want to be the lords ruling over us all. For the plutocrats, this stuff is just a means to an end. They’re whipping up the masses to tear down the last vestiges of a state which restrains them. They don’t care if abortion and birth control are “legal”. That’s not the model they want at all - their end goal is one where they choose whether we have children. Complete authoritarianism, with a yoke just loose enough to pretend it’s not a dictatorship.

Then there are the other people. The rabidly religious. They’re amazingly enough the patsies in all this, dangerous though they are. They, too, don’t care about the consequences. What they care about is the how. Ultimately the problem they have with abortion, with birth control, with gay marriage, with all of it - is that unpeople are exercising autonomy. The goal isn’t to reduce abortions. Nor to have moar babies, or anything like that. Their goal is to take away any ability for you and I to make choices, and to punish us for not being Just Like Them. If that results in mother and child dying, well, that’s fine. If it doesn’t, that’s also fine. It’s entirely irrelevant, and any appeal based on consequences is just a temptation to turn away from the Righteous Path. And these people, they HATE temptation. So appealing to any sense of compassion, to them, is an attack.

Some highlights on HB813:

- The state already outlaws abortion at “fetal heartbeat” AND has a trigger law outlawing all abortion that will take effect if Roe vs Wade is overturned. But some consider those “woefully insufficient” because the punishments aren’t harsh enough.

- Specifies the state will ignore any federal court rulings (past or future) that contradict the new law, thus overturning the Supremacy Clause of the US Constitution (while stating that any Federal attempt to overrule this law - including via Federal Law - would be in violation of the Constitution.)

- Allow impeachment of any state judge that attempts to block it.

- Personhood rights to “all unborn children from the moment of fertilization”

- Technically criminalizes in vitro fertilization by defining the fertilized egg as a person before it is implanted. Specifically struck from the state’s current existing legal definition of personhood are the words “and implantation” after “fertilization”.

- This would also criminalize ectopic pregnancy, which is 100% non-viable and fatal for both mother and child if not immediately treated with either medication or surgery to halt the pregnancy.

- Would also criminalize IUDs and emergency contraception.

- Would technically criminalize all miscarriages. AND the state legislature has already rejected legislation to protect against prosecution for a lost pregnancy. They rejected it a week before voting to advance this bill.

- Specifically canonizes the law as non-severable, which means it considers all of the above to be so essential that you cannot change a part of it, the whole must be accepted.

Between the decision to mail people COVID testsaftermocking the idea and the decision to extend the student loan defermentaftersignaling that it would end in February, two things should now be clear to everyone:

1. Challenging the Biden Administration’s decisions, even through griping and creating negative discourse around it in social media, can be an effective agent of change.

2. Those who say that we shouldn’t speak up because it helps the Republicans are the ones doing real harm.

Given today’s news about Biden invoking the Defense Production Act to try to address the infant formula shortage after Jen Psaki was viciously mocked for telling parents worried about their infant’s risk of malnutrition to “call their doctor or pediatrician”, a few thoughts:

  1. Nicely done everyone!
  2. Please, please, please do notallowBiden’s incoming press secretary to use accusations of racism, homophobia, misogyny, or any combination thereof to shield her and the administration from further criticism.

I mean, yes, those are two very different understandings of the world

but if your party has already successfully kneecapped the politicians in your own party who said things like “This country is going in the wrong direction because of a lack of universal healthcare”

and you’re deciding who to run against the politicians saying “This country is going in the wrong direction because of people with They/Them pronouns and I Alone Can Fix It”

it would at least tell you not to go with the Career Politician who spearheaded every bad political decision in the last 30 years.

You won’t listen. But it would be good to know.

So, with the new info coming out from SCOTUS…..I’m just gonna drop this great resource for other women in the US…

Did you know you can get the abortion pills without the need of being pregnant? Did you also know you can get them for about $150 dollars…..and the site I’m about to share has a sliding scale, and helps you afford it if it comes to that.

I understand 150 is still a lot of money, but prenatal care is way more. And every uterus owner deserves the right and access to a SAFE abortion. Since, ya know, the whole reason Roe v Wade passed was because legality didn’t affect abortion numbers, it just affected the number of safe abortions.

This site is a great resource!!! And keep in mind, a lot of states that have already passed anti-abortion legislature are charging it as a felony….ya know what that means ….felons lose the right to vote.

So people who are pro-life, you’re allowed to have your own views and beliefs, but now that they are being forced on everyone, you need to think about what you care about more. A woman’s right to vote? A woman’s right to life? A woman’s right to mourn the loss of her child without a criminal case to “make sure” it was a miscarriage and not caused on purpose? Pro-choice is exactly what it says, giving women the power to make choices based off their own beliefs and values.

Another resource, if you’re on Reddit, r/auntienetwork is also a really great place to get assistance in women’s health, including obtaining abortions. It’s regular people who want to help out.

I’m sorry for people in states that have trigger legislation or are in the midst of it being drafted. You’re entitled to your own bodily autonomy. And I’m also sorry that a lot of the stuff people are telling you is to move to a blue state or out of the country….as if the price of living and wages in America afford the ability to pick up and move at a moments notice. If Roe v. Wade gets overturned, you will have support, and you will have a choice. You’re not alone. This is an attack on all uterus owners, and so we need to support one another since the US has proved over and over that they are not committed to supporting women’s needs.

And if you need to vent to someone, my PMs are always open. ❤️

How to help millions of disabled Americans

The SSI Restoration Act of 2021 is currently proposed to congress. We have until 2023 to get it passed (this post is dated March 30, 2022). SSI is a type of disability payment for disabled Americans. The bill will increase the SSI payment to the poverty level. Right now the maximum payment is 9528$ a year. It will allow disabled people on SSI to marry and not lose their income which they cannot do currently. Disabled Americans do not have marriage equality currently. It will increase the asset and income caps for SSI among other improvements.

Friends and I made a website that has all of this info plus a really easy way to send an email to your state reps. If you click the link below, you can send a letter of support for the SSI Restoration Act to your state reps. It’s already written and takes only a few minutes. Seriously it is ridiculously easy. These emails have more pull to reps than resistbot so please fill out if you can!

With our letter campaign, people have sent over 5,000 letters to representatives! We’ve decided to make a new campaign with updated information to send to reps. So if you have already sent one through fixssi.com, you can send another! And if you haven’t please take the time to do so!

We also have a Facebook called “Campaign to Fix SSI” that you can follow for regular updates as well.

And if you are able to call state reps (which has the most influence) our website has a call script and lists of your reps phone numbers. Please follow the link below for that.

Please send a letter to your reps and boost! It could change the lives of millions of disabled Americans.

Alabama’s Republican state senate just passed a law to ban abortion (even in cases of rape and incest). THIS IS NOT A DRILL!

P.S. AOC’s tweet mentions that abortion would become a felony under this bill. As of now, it would make it illegal for doctors to perform the procedure, and nothing has been said about making it a felony for the women patients who undergo the procedure. Doctors could face up to 99 years in prison for helping their patients terminate unwanted or unviable pregnancies.

This picture has been circulating all over social media and I have more to add:

  • Delete all period cycle tracking apps off your phone today.
  • Do not tell anyone why you want to take your trip, especially over text/apps.
  • Do not tell anyone the real state/destination of your trip.
  • Have everyone on your trip turn off their phones. Use written directions or a burner phone. Do not use burner phone to open any personal apps. Dispose of after trip.
  • Only use cash while purchasing ANYTHING on your trip.
  • Take “vacation” photos to post later. Be cautious of geo-tags/only post screenshots of the original photos.

Some people might say this is being extra or overly precautious, but this really is the reality we are facing. People have been imprisoned with murder charges in certain states- some for literal miscarriages. If you are a person that ends up in this situation, the state can and will use your data against you as evidence in court. Do not leave a paper trail. If they want to treat us like criminals, we’re gonna move like criminals.

You people realize the body positivity movement is literally a political movement right. Like it’s a movement that was started to improve the rights of fat people and stop discrimination against fat people. You realize that. It’s not a tea party where everyone just compliments everyone else on their looks.

One time I was teaching undergrads and we were talking about how you can even define what is “fair” in employment. And I was explaining how there have been court cases about employers forcing their employees to wear makeup or do their hair/nails, etc, so of course we end up talking about flight attendants. And my students, predictably, are like, “Well ok but in the case of flight attendants, being good looking is literally just part of the job description.” So I point out how applying this principle universally would basically make it so that any employer could refuse to hire someone who was fat or ugly. And That One Kid was like, “Well if it affects the business’s ability to make money, I mean, that’s just smart.” And so I say, “Yes, that is certainly what a capitalist would say. But don’t you think that allowing that capitalist interest to take precedence would lead to a world in which it’s legally permissible to refuse to hire someone just because they’re fat or ugly? Basically legalizing discrimination and blocking access to work and livelihood?” And this motherfucker is like, “Well, yeah. ”

When I tell you I almost had to leave…I was full-body shaking and afterward, my queer students came up and were like, “omg are you okay?”

So yeah, it’s fucking political. What you think is about personal aesthetic preference is actually oppressing huge groups of people, so.

This is a fascinating example because I actually am a flight attendant, and no the fuck it isn’t a part of my job description to “be good looking.” It hasn’t been since the 60s. We’re literally first responders. Should your ER nurse have to wear makeup in order to save your life?

metalheadsforblacklivesmatter:

This is a reminder that Roe v Wade wasn’t just about abortion.

It was about privacy.

It didn’t state abortion is legal.

It stated that you had the right to do whatever you want, and we can’t determine if you’ve had an abortion without invading your privacy.

To see how abortion bans are a violation of privacy look at the abortion cases in Texas. Neighbors are sueing neighbors because, “You were pregnant. You left the state. Now you’re not. That’s strange. I think you left to have an abortion.”

Do you WANT people in your business like that? Sneakily checking the addresses on your mail to see if you’re ordering abortion meds? To stalk you to the point where they can tell if you’re pregnant and when you’re suddenly not anymore? Companies going through your search history to see if you’re on abortion websites?

Consumption isn’t a shortcut to character and morality goes well beyond fandom. That’s modern culture in a nutshell.

Consumption isn’t activism and we should be glad - because if consumption was activism, then your entire positive contribution to the world would be cancelled out by exactly one person having a different hobby.

This reminds me a lot of a concept I’ve seen a lot in American Christianity, especially evangelical/fundamentalist Protestantism, which is the idea that the only criteria for being “saved” is expressing belief in Jesus and God. You don’t need to do good things, you don’t need to show compassion and kindness to others, you don’t need to help the less fortunate—you just need to believe in Jesus and essentially (from an outsider perspective) perform your faith according to social expectations.

Given how culturally Protestant* (and specifically evangelical) the US is, and how American many fandom spaces can be, I have to wonder how much of this “consumes the right media = good person, consumes the wrong media = bad person” idea is just this same ugly concept repackaged and rebranded with leftist terms. I don’t think people who do this are intentionally recycling the Christian rhetoric they were raised with—I think they may not even be aware that that’s where their thinking comes from, because when the culture you’re raised with is still the dominant culture of where you live it’s hard to fully shake it off. But the point is that I absolutely think cultural Christianity has a big impact on a lot of social justice discourses even when the people discussing have actively distanced themselves from the religion.

This election season has been on fire since the beginning. With so many large personalities and explosive debates, it can be hard to keep up sometimes. Many hard-hitting issues have been covered since the race for the presidency started, but we still haven’t heard much on LGBT issues.

We did some digging, and here are some of the top statements some of this year’s most notable presidential hopefuls have made on LGBT issues throughout the years. You’ll find that some candidates have evolved while others…not so much.

Dear Michiganders,

If you are concerned about the 1931 law that will ban abortion outright once Roe v Wade falls, here are some steps you should take:

1)Call your state senator and ask them to support passing SB 70, which would repeal the 1931 bill banning abortion. Type in your address to this page to get their contact information: https://www.senate.michigan.gov/fysbyaddress.html

2) Attend one of the MANY abortion rallies scheduled this weekend and sign the Reproductive Freedom for All petition. The petitions MUST be signed in person, and you must be a registered voter for your signature to count. There will be volunteers in Ann Arbor, Plymouth, Big Rapids, Grand Rapids, Detroit, Ypsilanti, and more this Saturday, May 14th. There will be a petition worker in Lansing on Sunday as well. The petition is to put abortion rights on the ballot come November, and we need as many signatures as possible.

And lastly, please reblog this post so it reaches as many Michiganders as possible!

This is going to be a very big deal for folks in Michigan. Please share.
