#academy awards
This business with Smith being banned from the Oscars for 10 years is phenomenally stupid.
Like, I can name a million things worse that have happened at the Academy Awards, astonishing and horrifying displays of sexual harassment and even assault, even attempted physical assault in John Wayne’s case, those these were all perpetrated by white men funny enough. All have gone by without the Academy even blinking in their direction. But Will Smith slaps an annoying comedian, and it’s curtains.
It is very, very stupid. But somehow, someway, I think Will Smith is going to be just fine.
love that will smith has been a meme for loving and defending his wife at an award show twice now. the ultimate wife guy.
Will Smith was just banned from the Oscars for 10 years for slapping a guy. Unrelated but here’s an IMDb list of the most famous actors and directors who signed the letter asking for the statutory rape charges against Roman Polanski, who is not banned from the Oscars, to be dropped.
My response to learning this information about both Will Smith & Roman Polanski is best described by Fry here⤵
Shocked because they won’t forgive Will for slapping Chris Rock, because he was defending his Wife (Jada Pinkett Smith)’s Honor; but they will do so with a Rapist/Sexual Predator…
John Wayne tried to assault Sacheen Littlefeather at the 1973 Oscars. But let’s keep talking about how the “slapping incident” was the award show’s darkest moment ever.
“As she delivered the speech John Wayne was furious. She later said, “During my presentation, he was coming towards me to forcibly take me off the stage, and he had to be restrained by six security men to prevent him from doing so.”
Besides John Wayne’s abhorrent behavior other celebrities like Clint Eastwood, Raquel Welch and Michael Caine also piled on.
John Wayne quote is taken right from a Playboy interview.
