An assignment for class where we had to make a book concept based on the dwindling Reading Habits of the Filipino People.
My target audience were young children, and I thought of a short book series called: Ang Buhay Ni Lola Isabela (The Life of Grandmother Isabela)
It’s a different take on ‘Mga Kuwento ni Lola Basyang’ (The Tales of Grandmother Basyang) wherein the grandmother tells her grandchildren of her adventures. It’s an illustrated book that has multiple short stories for children to make it easy for them to read and is similar to Filipino epics already known like Panday and Ibong Adarna, and using familiar mythological creatures as enemies or allies. These stories can be read by the children themselves or read to them by their parents.
Made for a first-time collaboration between chosen writers of The Ampersand Literature and Art Folio, and illustrators of UP Graphic (Graphic Illustration Collaborate) for their first Comic Anthology!
The theme of the anthology will be “Homebound,” and you can play with the theme however you like! The artists will base their comics off of pieces written by the writers.
Project’s headed by me and Danielle Rina of UP Graphic, as well as Jedd Ong and Celine Jao of Ampersand.
