notice how “girls mature faster” is never stated as a reason why girls should be given more positions of power and authority? It only works to hold girls to greater accountability than boys and to justify men’s attraction to them.

Food is a right only if it is your private property. You have no right to food that does not belong to you; you have no right to food that you have not purchased or produced.

beshnav:

Food isn’t scarce though, at least not everywhere. American grocery stores throw out tons of food every fucking day and aren’t even allowed to give it to the poor

Restaurants and Grocery stores throw out tons of food DAILY and are not allowed to donate it or even take it for themselves.

The amount of food America throws out is actually fucking horrendous. Another reason why I dont have the will to work anywhere near food is because I actually have fucking compassion and would give away what went unused at the end of the day, that action could get me FIRED.

us : people should be able to eat

these clowns: UM ACTUALLY

As someone who has worked in 2 restaurants and currently work in a grocery store in the US, I can attest to this. SO much food just gets fucking tossed.

The only exception I’ve seen is like once a week, maybe less often, our bakery is allowed to donate bread to some charity and usually the bakery tries to give away more than the one person from the charity has room in their car for.

And we have so much food go bad because there’s so much of it, no one buys it. It’s infuriating.

Food Not Bombs literally takes excess food from various sources and uses it to give away free meals and meal kits.

It’s not just an empty statement.

the whole point of Food Not Bombs is to use the food that’s wasted under capitalism because it can’t be sold for a profit to feed the people who need it, it’s literally designed to draw attention to the fact that scarcity under 21st century capitalism is manufactured. We produce enough food globally to feed 10 billion people a year; nobody should be hungry.

I literally almost got fired from Tim Hortons (call out) for giving homeless people stale doughnuts we had to throw out

If anybody tries to tell you that restaurants and grocery stores in the USA can’t donate or let people have their trash because they risk being sued tell them that the Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Act has been saying they’re full of shit since 1996.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Emerson_Good_Samaritan_Act_of_1996

It should not take me as a food anthropologist to validate these points but I’m gonna do it anyways and I’m just gonna link some resources for people interested in getting involved!

Here’s the story of how it came to be and its history! There have been laws specifically against Food Not Bombs! Activists have been arrested! Food Not Bombs is on an FBI terrorist watchlist and has been for about a decade!

Here’s a timeline!

Here’s a map of most Food Not Bombs organizations with contact information! Please note that a large majority of these are not and have not been active for a good long while!

Good news is you can just re-start that shit yourself! Or start a chapter near you if there isn’t one already!

Also it’s all vegan and vegetarian since that’s the most sustainable for the movement!

Be safe and take the same precautions you would for protecting your identity at a protest! It is helpful to be trained or have someone who is trained in de-escalation present at times when food is being shared!

“You’re the only (x) year old I would date” is a warning sign

“I feel bad about dating you because you’re so young” is a warning sign

“But because it’s US I know it’s ok” is a warning sign

“This would be bad between any other couple” is a warning sign and you need to run

“You’re so mature for your age” is a WARNING SIGN

“You are more mature and intelligent than your friends” is also a huge warning sign

“I always forget you’re a minor” and “you sound older” are allso warning signs

All of this is true even if it’s legal.

I’m always amazed at the double standard.

The customer shamed her for being in porn… but… how exactly did that customer *find* her videos in the first place?

These people are perfectly happy to consume the content but refuse to respect those that make it.

Also?

Just in case anybody tries to make a case that sex work is illegal:

I work at Taco Bell.

We are a felon-friendly company.

One of the best workers on my team is on parole for transporting drugs and we literally had a party for him when he graduated from his halfway house. (Well, “party.” Because of COVID it was more like “we brought you a cake and you can control the aux cord tonight,” but the thought was there.) I’ve worked with multiple addicts and trained a former gang member to become a shift leader. We don’t give a shit if you have a less-than-pure-as-the-driven-snow past. Porn is hardly a blip on the radar.

There is no reason that “this is illegal/legally gray work” should count against her. This is ENTIRELY about optics and “the customer is always right” gone insane.

Reason #35675324678 sex work needs to be made unequivocally legal.

Okay everybody else who ever read this story immediately realized that there’s no possibility the angry customer found out after the fact, right? Nobody is ever going to think “hey I wonder if that random taco bell worker is a porn star, perhaps I’ll google it” and the odds they accidentallyfound out days later about a random taco bell worker they interacted with are impossibly astronomical.

That was an anonymous complaint from an ex, a stalker, a judgmental neighbor, someone who already knew who she was and had a personal problem with her. Her employer should be ashamed of falling for disingenuous bullshit that stupidly fucking obvious.

What Would A Mediocre White Man Do? (new mantra to live by!)

this is SO REAL both the specific case and the broad case in the specific case: if you actually met 100% of the requirements they couldn’t afford you I tell this to every woman I talk to job hunting aboutAPPLY ANYWAY THE MEDIOCRE WHITE MEN ARE DOING IT (via@galwednesday)

“if you actually met 100% of the requirements they couldn’t afford you”

I really needed to hear this. I had never thought of it this way. This literally never occurred to me, I’ve just spent my whole adult life thinking I was underqualified for everything. Thinking I’m not good enough for anything because the “minimum requirements” are so high.

I need specifics. I wanna know what I can get away with. I wanna know what they really mean by “minimum.” I wanna know how much I’m actually worth.

As someone who worked in hr, this is true.

True to the point that if someone was extremely unqualified, but because of timing we were desperate, we’d bend rules to get them hired. And the only people taking advantage of this were guys.

if you actually met 100% of the requirements they couldn’t afford you

this made so much click in my head. because this was literally it–spend half the time being unqualified for everything and just not applying. and the rest of the time being qualified and not getting hired. because ahahaha fuck you, you’re too expensive now/we’re too worried you’ll jump ship and leave us because of how qualified you are! guess we’ll just hire this shitty dude to do it !? ?

I debated posting this here but WWAMWMD? He’d post it. #girlgogetyours

It’s way more than “if you actually met 100% of the requirements they couldn’t afford you”

The reason they couldn’t afford you is that if you meet 100% of the requirements, you’re ready for the next position up.

Career strategy 101: The most valuable employees are always learning. Every company wants employees who won’t stagnate, i.e. sit in one role doing the same thing ever year and continue getting annual raises. A company wants to hire you for one thing at one salary, and then move you up through higher positions over the years, i.e. they keep getting new benefits for the additional money they’re spending on you.

A good company will offer you development opportunities, either within your role or in addition to it. So when the company interviews you, they want to see that you can learn what they need, and you want to see that they can teach you new skills. Companies know that the best applicants are interviewing them in return and that if they don’t offer development, they will lose those applicants to better jobs.

Companies structure positions this way intentionally and they assume you know it.

So not only should you apply to jobs you aren’t 100% qualified for, you can use 100% qualification as an indicator that you’re overqualified and should look for the next job up.

This started funny but became really important to know.

It’s hard to remember this when rejection crushes you like a freight train and the job market sucks like a hyperactive Roomba, but it *is* true.

This one is surprisingly relevant to my situation. Thanks!

As a conservative who supports free speech, I’m outraged.

This is the tyranny that we were stockpiling guns to fight back against.

So what do most conservatives believe is the correct response? Should we storm the Kentucky government and demand the repeal of this tyrannical law?

Conservative: “Enough about police brutality. What about this gang member who killed another black person? Why don’t you care about that?”

BLM: “He’s in jail. Police officers who kill people often get away with it. That’s why we focus on police brutality.”

Conservative: “But what about this black person who killed a police officer?”

BLM: “Again, he’s in jail.”

Conservative: “But what about this black person who killed a white child?”

BLM: “You already know the answer to that. It’s clear that you’re willfully ignorant.”

Conservative: “That’s it. I tried to hide my racism under a cover of faking sympathy for murder victims who I don’t care about at all, but you just had to point out the flaws in my logic. So now I’m just going to be openly racist and not try to hide it anymore. It’s your own fault.”

Something that someone once pointed out and that I always remember when I see people making these arguments is that black communities DO care about gang violence, but people outside of those communities often do not see those efforts, as they are not the targets of the messaging. But, the person pointed out if you search “Stop the Violence [city name]” you will find multiple events and groups dedicated to trying to reduce gang violence and crime
So like, people do care a lot actually. People can care about multiple things

princessororo:

white women are always like “more strong kickass female leads!” and when i say i want to see a black female love interest who is allowed to be girly and fall in love they give me weird looks and say that i’m supporting gender stereotypes and heteronormativity but what a lot of white women don’t get is that black women we’ve had hundreds of years of having our femininity ripped from us, of being deemed unworthy of male (especially non-black male) attention. black women in media are never allowed to be the “cute” ones or the love interest, we’ve always been the “strong kickass street smart woman” trope that white women want so badly. so basically if a black girl says she wants to see another black girl fulfill the role of “love interest” there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that and it isn’t a hindrance to feminism

Conservatives in response to the pandemic: “If you do what they say, you’re a sheep.”

Conservatives in response to police brutality: “If you don’t do what they say, you deserve to die.”
